Financial Controller

Overview

The Financial Controller, reporting to the VP of Finance, will oversee and manage the company's accounting functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accounting Oversight: Supervise all accounting activities, including Billing, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, General Ledger, Inventory Accounting, and Revenue Recognition.
  • Team Leadership: Direct and mentor the accounting team, ensuring effective performance and development.
  • Financial Statements: Compile and issue monthly financial statements in a timely manner. Investigate complex accounting issues to ensure compliance.
  • Closing Procedures: Facilitate the month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Utility Contracts: Oversee the management of utility agreements.
  • Quality Assurance: Maintain high standards of quality control for financial transactions and reporting.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal reporting requirements and manage tax filings.

Cost Accounting

  • Cost Analysis: Examine and monitor costs related to manufacturing processes, including materials, labor, and overhead.
  • System Implementation: Set up cost accounting systems to ensure accurate cost allocation and reporting.
  • Variance Analysis: Perform cost variance analysis to pinpoint cost-saving opportunities or potential issues.

Budgeting and Forecasting

  • Budget Development: Create and manage budgets for manufacturing operations.
  • Forecasting: Develop financial forecasts to project future expenses and revenues related to manufacturing.

Financial Reporting

  • Report Creation: Generate financial reports that provide insights into manufacturing financial performance.
  • Management Presentation: Present financial data to management to aid in decision-making.

Inventory Management

  • Inventory Monitoring: Track and control inventory levels to optimize production and cost efficiency.
  • Valuation Methods: Apply inventory valuation methods to accurately represent the value of stock.

Process Improvement

  • Efficiency Improvements: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Cross-Department Collaboration: Work with other departments to streamline manufacturing processes.

Compliance

  • Standards Adherence: Ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulations, and company policies.
  • Audit Participation: Engage in internal and external audits related to manufacturing operations.

Costing Models

  • Model Development: Create and maintain costing models to estimate costs for new products or changes in manufacturing processes.

Decision Support

  • Strategic Financial Analysis: Provide financial data and analysis to support strategic decisions in manufacturing.

ERP System Utilization

  • ERP Management: Use Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems to manage and analyze financial data related to manufacturing.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Interdepartmental Coordination: Collaborate with production, logistics, and procurement departments to ensure integrated financial management.

Additional Duties

  • Controller Responsibilities: Perform additional duties as required to support organizational objectives.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Demonstrated experience as a Controller or Accounting Supervisor with over 5 years of combined accounting and finance experience.
  • Deep understanding of accounting principles and practices.
  • Experience in preparing financial statements and managing general ledger functions.
  • Strong managerial, supervisory, and administrative abilities.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field required; CPA and/or MBA preferred.
