Overview

We are seeking a skilled Software Engineer to join our team, focusing on building and enhancing the software infrastructure supporting Digital Pathology algorithm co-development within Roche Personalized Healthcare Solutions (PHCS). This role is crucial for developing robust software tools, automating complex workflows, ensuring system reliability, managing data pipelines effectively, and upholding compliance standards for our digital algorithm development efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain software systems and tools that support algorithm development, data management, and workflow automation in the digital pathology domain.
  • Collaborate closely with data scientists and cross-functional development team members to understand requirements and translate them into effective software solutions.
  • Develop and implement robust automation tools to replace manual steps within the development and data processing workflows, improving efficiency and reliability.
  • Build, maintain, and collaborate on software infrastructure for managing large datasets, including image data and associated metadata, ensuring integrity and traceability.
  • Implement and optimize algorithms and data processing pipelines developed by data scientists, focusing on performance, scalability, and maintainability using programming languages like Python.
  • Develop and maintain user interfaces (GUIs) for internal and external tools, enhancing usability for researchers and developers.
  • Integrate machine learning models and AI algorithms into production-ready software systems.
  • Ensure all software development follows best practices, including code reviews, version control (e.g., Git), unit testing, automated testing, and documentation.
  • Implement and maintain systems that ensure data traceability and compliance with pharmaceutical industry standards and regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proven experience in software development, with strong proficiency in Python or similar object-oriented programming languages.
  • Solid understanding of software engineering principles, data structures, algorithms, and software design patterns.
  • Experience with software development best practices, including version control (Git), testing frameworks, and CI/CD concepts.
  • Experience developing software that involves data processing, potentially including image data or large datasets.
  • Experience with GUI development frameworks (e.g., PyQt, Tkinter, web frameworks like React/Angular/Vue).
  • Experience with workflow orchestration tools (e.g. Prefect).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, logical thinking, and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively within cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 to 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience working in a life sciences, medical device, or pharmaceutical environment.
  • Familiarity with compliance standards relevant to software in regulated industries (e.g., FDA regulations, ISO standards).
  • Experience developing or integrating software related to image analysis, machine learning, or AI pipelines.
  • Experience with database technologies (SQL and/or NoSQL).
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform) and associated services (e.g., S3, EC2, Lambda, Azure Blob Storage).
  • Experience with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker) and orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes).
  • Experience with High-Performance Computing (HPC).
  • Familiarity with the domain of Digital Pathology.
