Nesco Data Center & Infrastructure is seeking a Mission Critical Data Center Engineer in the Greater NYC area.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a Mission-Critical Facilities Data Center Engineer who will play a key role in ensuring the continuous, efficient, and reliable operation of our data center infrastructure. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in high-availability environments, takes ownership of complex systems, and can balance hands-on technical work with proactive facilities management.

This engineer will work closely with a team of like-minded professionals to maintain and optimize the power, cooling, and environmental systems that support mission-critical IT operations. The ideal candidate is a true engineer at heart—analytical, team-oriented, and deeply familiar with the operational dynamics of modern data centers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Center Operations: Oversee and perform daily operational tasks to ensure data center uptime, including monitoring power, cooling, and environmental systems.

  • Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Diagnose, respond to, and resolve facility-related incidents including electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems.

  • Power Systems: Operate and maintain UPS systems, PDUs, generators, and related electrical distribution infrastructure; assist in performing load calculations and capacity planning.

  • Cooling Systems: Maintain and troubleshoot CRAC units, chillers, and other HVAC components to sustain optimal environmental conditions.

  • Preventive & Corrective Maintenance: Execute scheduled maintenance plans to reduce risk of downtime and ensure compliance with operational standards.

  • Incident Response: Participate in on-site response and recovery for any critical infrastructure event, coordinating with IT and operations teams as required.

  • Monitoring & Documentation: Utilize facility monitoring tools to track system performance and maintain accurate records of incidents, maintenance activities, and changes.

  • Team Collaboration: Work effectively as part of a rotating team that supports 24x7x365 operations, ensuring coverage and continuity across shifts.

  • Compliance & Safety: Adhere to safety protocols, operational policies, and data center best practices to maintain a secure and compliant environment.

  • Cross-Site Support: Provide occasional support to nearby field offices or remote facilities as operational demands require.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • 3 years of experience in a mission-critical data center or equivalent facilities engineering environment.

  • Strong understanding of UPS systems, chillers, CRAC units, generators, and related facility infrastructure.

  • Working knowledge of electrical systems (three-phase power, wattage, load balancing) and mechanical systems.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, electrical one-lines, and mechanical schematics.

  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve data center facility issues in real time.

  • Strong teamwork skills and the ability to communicate effectively with operations, IT, and vendor partners.

  • Willingness to work 12-hour shifts, including nights or weekends, as part of a rotating schedule.

Preferred:

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Facilities Engineering (or equivalent technical field).

  • Certification(s) such as DCPro, CFM, EPA Universal, or related data center/facility credentials.

  • Experience with DCIM or Client monitoring platforms.

  • Familiarity with safety procedures, lockout/tagout, and emergency response in a mission-critical environment.

Core Attributes:

  • Engineer's mindset: Analytical, curious, and methodical in solving complex facility issues.

  • Operational discipline: Values precision, consistency, and attention to detail in a 24x7 environment.

  • Team-oriented: Works seamlessly within a collaborative, cross-functional team.

  • Customer-focused: Understands that uptime and reliability directly support business success.
