Histotechniques (Tissue Sectioning and Staining)
Maintains basic understanding of foundational histotechniques of embedding, microtomy,
coverslipping, processing and primary staining.
Demonstrates experience with special and advanced staining techniques on automated
staining platforms.
Receives detailed directions on all work. Follows standard operating procedures.
May perform cell block preparation, screening tissue, cryotomy special staining,
advanced staining, grossing and tissue processing.
May assist in preparation work for complex techniques under the direction of more
senior histology technicians.
•Quality and Safety
Maintains Right to Operate and ensures that all processes are performed in a safe and
healthy manner; Addresses and escalates any potentially unsafe hazards; Ensures timely
reporting of safety hazards, incidents and near misses using safety reporting tools.
Navigates and understands the quality system and escalates issues.
Accurately performs tasks in a regulated environment (OSHA, NMPA, FDA, etc.).
Performs and documents all transactions and production instructions with accuracy
related to the proper receipt, quarantine, storage, and disbursement of materials as it
relates to FDA, OSHA, QSR, ISO, Good Manufacturing Practices and other Roche policies and
procedures.
Assists with non-conformance investigations, reworks, and corrective actions.
Participates in the review of and provides feedback on document changes, including
redlines.
Adheres to 95% or above internal training compliance.
Maintains calibrated equipment including automated staining instrument and equipment
maintenance.
Maintains complete and accurate records including daily metrics.
•Continuous Improvement
Conducts 6S activities, gathers/meets cycle times and develops/follows standard work;
identifies and implements process improvements and continuous improvement initiatives
utilizing lean tools.
Participates and contributes in team/tier meetings.
Participates in process improvement projects.
•Teamwork and Collaboration
Proactively collaborates with peers and with other functions to ensure targets are
achieved.
Histotechnician - RTD
Provides suggestions to improve work processes and laboratory equipment.
May assist in the training of new employees and contractors.
May participate in cross functional technical activities (e.g. quality investigations,
new product transfer).
• Other duties as assigned by management.
Education Requirement:
Associate's Degree in laboratory science, medical
laboratory technology or major in histology.
Bachelor's Degree
HT (ASCP) Certification (with Associate's
Degree or Bachelor's Degree).
Experience Requirement:
2 years Directly related histology experience with
Associate's Degree or equivalent 60 credit
hours of college coursework.
1 year Directly related histology experience with
Bachelor's Degree.
Knowledge, Skill or Ability:
• Ability to read, analyze and following Operating Procedures.
• Knowledge of foundational histotechniques embedding, microtomy, staining and
coverslipping.
• Knowledge of basic and specialized laboratory techniques.
• Skilled with use of word processing and email use.
• Demonstrated experience with Lean / Continuous Improvement.
• Experience with Google products (gMail, gSheets, gDoc, etc).
• Experience with SAP.
• Ability to read, write and comprehend English.
• Ability to work with cross-functional teams.
• Ability to be agile and accurate in a high-volume environment.
• Strong organizational skills, planning skills and attention to detail.
