Title: Pouch Making Manager
Supervisor: Operations Manager
Status: Exempt
Salary: $50,000-$65,000
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
This individual is responsible for overseeing the execution of production plans on automatic equipment. S/he manages the set-up and troubleshooting of equipment and helps maintain said equipment in good working order. S/he works closely with the APM SU-TS Tech, Manufacturing Manager, and Maintenance/Engineering personnel to continuously improve the department's capabilities and takes action as required to ensure the automatic production crew operates at optimum levels of competency and meets customer commitments.
Duties and Responsibilities (Specific):
1. Focus on promoting growth and competence among all production workers, especially those in the Pouch Department.
2. Assist the Manufacturing Manager in developing and publishing schedules, based on production capabilities and departmental readiness.
3. Drive the department to maximize uptime and productivity, instilling urgency and pride in job performance.
4. Project new labor requirements and collaborate with management in recruiting and hiring new production personnel.
5. Coordinate the training of Automatic Production personnel in the proper and safe use of tools, equipment, and materials, and collaborate with the Quality Assurance Manager to maintain a comprehensive training program.
6. Supervise PDSU&TS Tech, Auto Equipment Operators, and Assistant Operators, evaluate their performance, and assist them in improving their competence, in line with personnel policies.
7. Exercise disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal, in collaboration with the Operations and Manufacturing Managers.
8. Monitor daily output to ensure quotas, deadlines, and quality standards are met, and inform the Operations Manager of special needs.
9. Monitor Tally and Material Usage activity, ensuring accurate and timely reporting, and ensure job stations are set up for easy tally counts.
10. Circulate around the department to motivate machine operators to perform at high productivity levels.
11. Monitor work in progress, develop contingency plans for late components, machinery breakdowns, or excessive absences.
12. Ensure good housekeeping, order, and safety procedures are practiced throughout the facility.
13. Authority to halt production when necessary.
14. Ensure job tear-down activities are performed immediately after completion, coordinating tasks such as:
- Returning tools, jigs, fixtures, and templates to appropriate storage.
- Documenting and transporting leftover materials to the appropriate staging area for quality review.
- Cleaning equipment and workstations to clear them for the next job.
15. Operate automatic production equipment as needed.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of three years of experience supervising production operations on automated pouch-making equipment (including personnel and operations).
- Strong command of repair and overhaul methods and tools.
- Good organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to assess multiple machine functions simultaneously and make necessary adjustments.
- Demonstrated ability to engage and foster growth and productivity in direct reports.
- Ability to train and mentor direct reports.
- Expert knowledge of motion control systems and general automation principles.
