Overview:
Hayden Industrial, a leading manufacturer of industrial cooling systems, is seeking a Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE). In this position, you will be responsible for ensuring that all purchased materials, components, and outsourced fabrication services used in the production of Air-Cooled Heat Exchangers meet company quality requirements, industry standards, and ASME/API customer specifications. This role proactively manages supplier performance, conducts audits, resolves quality issues, and drives continuous improvement across the supply chain.
Key Responsibilities:
Supplier Qualification & Development
- Evaluate and approve new suppliers, ensuring compliance with ASME Section VIII, API 661, API 660, ISO 9001, and customer-specific requirements.
- Conduct supplier audits (process, product, and quality system audits) and create follow-up action plans.
- Monitor supplier performance metrics (PPM, OTD, Client trends) and lead supplier improvement initiatives.
Incoming Material & Fabrication Quality Assurance
- Review supplier documentation including MTRs, weld procedures (WPS/PQR), NDE reports, dimensional reports, coatings certifications, and pressure test records.
- Ensure supplied materials (tubes, fins, headers, structural steel, fans, gearboxes, motors) meet technical and mechanical specifications required for ACHE manufacturing.
- Support receiving inspection activities and establishing inspection plans for critical components.
Nonconformance Management & Corrective Actions
- Lead root cause analyses using 5-Why, Fishbone/Ishikawa, and other problem-solving tools.
- Issue and manage Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs) to ensure timely and effective resolution.
- Work closely with engineering, procurement, and production to disposition nonconforming materials.
Product and Process Quality Support
- Participate in design reviews, supplier kick-off meetings, and pre-production or pre-inspection meetings.
- Support qualification of special processes (welding, brazing, NDE, coatings, machining).
- Review and approve supplier ITPs, QCPs, WPS/PQR, NDE procedures, coating procedures, and testing plans.
Documentation & Compliance
- Ensure supplier documentation packages (CMTRs, hydrostatic test records, coating DFT reports, weld maps, NDE reports) comply with project and code requirements.
- Support customer or third-party inspections at supplier facilities (TPI, AI for ASME work).
- Maintain supplier quality records and contribute to internal and external audit activities.
This position involves safety-sensitive job duties and will be considered a safety-sensitive position for purpose of the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act ("The Unity Bill.”) effective August 29th, 2019.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, Materials Science, or related technical field (preferred).
- 3–7 years of supplier quality, manufacturing quality, or welding/metallurgy experience—preferably in ACHE, pressure vessels, or heavy fabrication industry.
Technical Skills
- Knowledge of ASME Section VIII Division 1, API 661, API 660, TEMA standards, and relevant NDE methods.
- Experience with welding processes (SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, SAW) and ability to interpret WPS/PQR/Welder qualifications.
- Ability to read engineering drawings, P&IDs, BOMs, ITPs, and material specifications.
- Strong understanding of metallurgy, coatings, heat treatment, pressure testing, and fabrication processes.
- Proficient with root-cause analysis tools and quality management systems (ISO 9001).

- Detail-oriented, analytical, and proactive problem solver.
- Comfortable with up to 30% travel to supplier sites.
Supervisor Responsibility:
This position has supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office and supplier site environment. This role uses standard office equipment. When in the manufacturing facility, all employees are required to wear personal protective equipment to include/hearing protection, and safety glasses with side shields, and OSHA compliant safety boots/shoes.

While performing duties of this job, the employee in this position might remain stationary for long periods of time, while operating a computer and other office machinery. This position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access filing cabinets and operate office machinery.
The employee might occasionally lift or move objects up to 25 pounds.
On occasion, the employee may be required to visit the shop that is a non-temperature-controlled environment with loud noises, dust, dirt, and metal particles that are usually associated with metal fabrication shops.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel:
30% travel to supplier sites.
