JOB SUMMARY:
The buyer will be responsible for purchasing and negotiating materials, equipment, supplies, electronic components, metal and board fabrication. Evaluates vendor quotes and services to determine most competitive prices, quality and desired lead times. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, efficient and familiar with a variety of standard electronic practices, concepts and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. The buyer will work closely with the Materials Manager, Finance and Stockroom personnel in procurement activities to meet company objectives and customer requirements. Reports to the Materials Manager.
JOB DUTIES:
- Purchase to fulfill material requirements per MRP and MPS
- Issue of purchase orders in accordance with specifications, requirements and terms and conditions.
- Negotiates additions, deletions, or modifications to purchase orders and resolves invoicing issues
- Maintain purchasing history and pricing
- Responsible for procurement compliance and cost/price analysis
- Reviews budget and delivery issues with Manager
- Will help develop, support and execute sourcing strategies based on demand and supply challenges and marketplace conditions, ensuring alignment with the business goals.
- Proactively engages in cost reduction/cost control efforts and monitors suppliers for adherence to quoted pricing
- Maintains reports on scheduled material deliveries and expedites or delays delivery to adhere to production schedules
- Work with the supplier chain base to achieve and improve on time delivery and cost reduction goals
- Coordinates with Quality Assurance, and Materials Manager to approve and qualify vendors
- Follows purchasing practices to ensure honest, fair, and ethical relationships with vendors.
- Identify and investigate new sources of supply to attain the best possible quality, reliability, prices and delivery
- Advises Material Manager of developments to new products, price changes, lead times and vendor performance
- Monitors and maintains supplier delivery info and updates Materials Manager of changes
- Maintains Purchase Orders and vendor files
- Adhere to and support all established internal control processes
- Procurement of equipment and supplies for internal use
- Process RMAs for defective vendor materials
- Supports Lean practices
- Ability to effectively communicate and build relationship within Material Department and with outside vendors
- Ability to work independently, exercise discretion and independent judgment in the performance of duties
- Excellent planning skills, detail-oriented, efficient and driven
- Ability to excel in fast-paced environment and works well in high pressure situations
- Ability to find win-win solutions; a "make it happen” attitude
- Associate Degree and/or manufacturing background preferred
- This position requires five years experience in purchasing and planning of electronic materials.
- Strong Price Analysis skills in determining fair and reasonable pricing
- Must have strong computer skills, Word and Excel
- Understanding of MRP is a must
- General understanding of manufacturing processes and of ISO standards and requirements preferred
- Knowledge of accounting processes as they relate to purchasing function
- Technical Background (Ability to read drawings)
- Knowledge of Lean procurement practices
- Curiosity and desire for continuous improvement
