The Material Handler/Shipper job is a hands-on role involving moving, storing, and tracking materials and products within a facility to ensure an efficient workflow.
Shift : Monday - Friday 6am-2pm
Key responsibilities
- Loading and unloading: Receive incoming shipments and load finished products for outgoing transport by moving materials between trucks and designated areas. Package, protect, and preserve materials for transport and storage. Verify incoming/outgoing shipments against packing list, bill of lading, or other documents.
- Material transport: Use equipment such as cranes, forklifts, pallet jacks, or hand trucks to move materials throughout plant. These activities must be performed in a safe manner that protects the integrity of products and safety of all employees.
- Inventory management: Organize, stock, and maintain inventory levels. Perform cycle counts and document material movements to ensure accurate records.
- Order fulfillment: Pick and pack materials needed for production orders or customer shipments according to work orders or requisitions. Material may require identification that includes applying tags, labels, or other information related to customer, order number, part number, etc.
- Safety and maintenance: Keep work areas clean, safe, and organized, and ensure all equipment is operated correctly and maintained.
- Quality control: Visually inspect materials for damage and ensure they are stored and handled in a manner that protects their condition. Confirm quantities against documentation.
- Communication: Communicate with delivery/truck drivers, supervisors, and peer employees verbally or in electronic (email, etc) format.
Required skills and qualifications
- Physical stamina: The ability to stand for long periods and lift heavy items is essential.
- Equipment operation: Experience with the safe operation of cranes, forklifts and other heavy machinery is required.
- Organizational skills: The ability to keep track of materials and maintain accurate records is crucial for efficiency.
- Safety awareness: A strong understanding of workplace safety regulations is necessary to prevent accidents.
- Education: A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
- May be required to drive company vehicles to transport product. An acceptable driving record is required.
