Job Title: Maintenance Mechanic
Location: Rochester, NY
Employment Type: Full-Time (Direct Hire)
Summary: We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Mechanic to perform a wide range of complex building, mechanical, and equipment repairs for the Rochester Housing Authority. This hands-on role spans multiple trades, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, masonry, and carpentry. The ideal candidate will be mechanically inclined, safety-conscious, and able to work independently on diverse maintenance projects across housing facilities.
Pay:
- $24.00 – $32.00/hour, based on experience
- Voluntary on-call rotation is available and earns an additional shift differential
Schedule:
- Day Shift: Monday - Friday
- Some weekend and on-call availability may be required for maintenance emergencies and special projects
Key Responsibilities:

Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain systems including plumbing, HVAC, electrical, carpentry, and groundskeeping

Install or repair equipment, fixtures, and structural components

Perform routine and emergency maintenance tasks independently

Use diagnostic tools and hand/power tools to inspect and repair building systems

Read blueprints, schematics, and work orders to complete jobs according to specifications

Operate motor vehicles and maintenance equipment safely

Follow safety protocols, maintain clean workspaces, and log completed work

Work indoors and outdoors in various weather and environmental conditions
Minimum Qualifications:
- Three (3) years of full-time experience in a skilled mechanical or construction trade OR Graduation from a technical high school program in a related field plus two (2) years of relevant experience
- Must possess a valid Class D NYS Driver's License
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Skilled in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and/or general facilities maintenance

Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment for various trades

Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude

Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions, schematics, and manuals

Physical capability to lift 50–110 lbs., stand for extended periods, climb stairs, kneel, and work in confined spaces

Willingness to work in outdoor conditions and respond to after-hours needs as required
Preferred:

Experience in residential or public facility maintenance

Familiarity with preventive maintenance programs or work order systems
