Job Title: Maintenance Mechanic
Location: Rochester, NY
Employment Type: Full-Time (Direct Hire)
Summary: The Senior Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for performing complex repairs, installations, and maintenance across building systems, equipment, and grounds for the Rochester Housing Authority. This hands-on role spans a variety of skilled trades including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and masonry. This position also involves leading maintenance staff and assigning work orders to ensure efficient and safe operations.
Pay:
- $24.00 – $32.00/hour, depending on experience
- Voluntary on-call availability is eligible for additional shift differential pay
Schedule:
- Day Shift: Monday - Friday
- Voluntary on-call rotation available for additional compensation
Key Responsibilities:

Perform advanced installation, troubleshooting, and repairs of mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and building systems

Supervise and assign tasks to Maintenance Mechanics, Helpers, and Laborers

Lead by example and provide training in proper use of tools and procedures

Read and interpret plans, specifications, and work orders to carry out assignments

Operate and maintain hand tools, power equipment, and motor vehicles

Prioritize and complete work orders for emergency, preventive, and general maintenance

Work indoors and outdoors in varying conditions, including confined spaces and inclement weather
Minimum Qualifications:
- Three (3) years of full-time experience in skilled mechanical or construction trades OR Graduation from a technical high school program in a construction/mechanical trade plus two (2) years of relevant experience
- Must possess a valid Class D NYS Driver's License
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Proficient in multiple trades including plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC, and groundskeeping

Ability to supervise and train junior team members

Skilled in reading blueprints and troubleshooting building systems

Physically capable of lifting 50–110 lbs., standing for extended periods, and performing physically demanding tasks

Willingness to work outdoors and respond to after-hours issues as needed
Preferred:

Experience in public housing or multi-unit facility maintenance

Familiarity with preventive maintenance tracking systems
