Position Overview
The Payroll Tax Specialist will support backend payroll activities with a focus on payroll tax processing after payroll has been completed. This role requires hands-on experience working with state agencies, resolving tax notices, coordinating with tax providers, and managing multi-state tax requirements. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume environment and demonstrates exceptional accuracy, consistency, and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities

Process and manage payroll tax activities including federal, state, and FICA taxes.

Work directly with state agencies to resolve inquiries and discrepancies.

Review and respond to tax notices; collaborate with external tax providers.

Prepare and manage Power of Attorney (POA) forms and third-party authorizations.

Support payroll tax filings and ensure compliance with all regulatory deadlines.

Perform testing and validation activities for payroll tax projects and system updates.

Manage internal ticketing related to tax issues and communicate with external tax vendors.

Attend team meetings and contribute to process improvement discussions.
Required Skills & Qualifications

2–3 years of payroll tax experience (federal, state, and local).

Strong understanding of payroll tax filing requirements.

Experience managing multi-state payroll taxes.

Prior work with state agencies, tax notices, tax providers, and POA documentation.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.

High attention to detail, accuracy, and consistency.

Clear and effective communication skills.

Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

Self-motivated with strong organizational and follow-through capabilities.

Education: High school diploma required.
