A Surface Combustion Furnace Operator is responsible for operating and monitoring specialized furnaces to heat treat metal parts to specific temperatures and times. Key duties include loading and unloading materials, adjusting furnace controls, performing quality checks with instruments, recording production data, and performing routine maintenance and safety checks. The role requires strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to follow technical instructions and safety protocols.
Responsibilities
- Furnace Operation:
- Operate and monitor surface combustion furnaces to achieve specified temperatures and heating times for materials.
- Set furnace controls and adjust temperature, pressure, and other parameters using instruments, charts, dials, and gauges.
- Quality Control:
- Monitor furnace operation and product temperature using pyrometers, thermal instruments, and charts to ensure specifications are met.
- Perform sample tests to verify equipment functionality.
- Record production data and maintain accurate logs.
- Maintenance and Safety:
- Conduct regular inspections of furnaces and equipment to identify defects or wear.
- Perform routine maintenance and make adjustments to ensure equipment is functioning efficiently and safely.
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents.
Qualifications and Skills
- Technical training or experience in furnace operation is highly desirable.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to use measurement tools like calipers and gauges.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, work orders, and safety guidelines.
- Basic math skills for calculations.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical ability to work in a hot environment and perform job functions.
