Multiple Levels and Positions! $25-$36/hour Depending on Experience.
Schedule: 4, 10s; Monday-Thursday 6am to 4:30pm (occasional OT)
Position Title: Calibration Technician II / Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) Technician
Top Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship required – due to work on a Department of Energy (DOE) site
- No Green Card holders or Visa candidates – must be a U.S. citizen to access the site.
- Site Location: Industrial/nuclear environment.
Role Overview:
- While the role includes calibration duties, it is expanding into instrumentation and controls (I&C)—broader in scope than traditional calibration.
- Looking for candidates with instrumentation experience beyond just calibration, ideally with electrical troubleshooting skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, connect & troubleshoot various measurement & control devices (instrumentation).
- Valve work is a major part of the role — knowledge in this area is essential.
- Set up and maintain devices such as temperature, pressure, and flow sensors, switches, valves, and control panels.
- Work with pneumatic and electronic systems.
- Use tools like Set Route (software program) to verify electrical components & wiring.
- Troubleshoot malfunctioning devices & assist calibration techs in determining whether the issue is with the device or a calibration issue.
- Repair or replace equipment depending on diagnostics and cost-benefit analysis (e.g., when to quote vs. replace).
- Understand the mechanical and electrical aspects of industrial instruments.
- Collaborate closely with the calibration team — act as the instrumentation expert who can support and mentor calibration staff.
Ideal Background:
- Experience in industrial environments: petrochemical, pharmaceutical, or nuclear sectors.
- Solid knowledge of instrumentation and control systems.
- Basic knowledge of calibration is a plus.
- Strong electrical troubleshooting ability.
- Able to interpret technical diagrams (e.g., P&ID) and manufacturer specifications.
- Hands-on experience with installation, repair, and maintenance of instrumentation equipment.
- Team-oriented and capable of mentoring less experienced calibration techs.
- Experience working with multimeters and similar diagnostic tools.
- P&ID diagrams to verify system setups and processes is a plus.
Additional Notes:
- Candidates should not expect a typical calibration-only role — this position goes well beyond and is focused on instrumentation, field diagnostics, and system repair.
- Strong candidates may come from an I&E Technician background, with experience in:
-
- Plant lighting systems
- Thermostat systems
- Programmable logic controllers (PLCs)
- Reading and interpreting blueprints
- Disassembling/reassembling complex instrumentation systems
