Job Title: Controls Engineer – 2nd Shift
Location: Napoleon, Ohio
Pay Range: $37.50 – $48.00 per hour
About the Role
This position is located in Napoleon, Ohio, at a final assembly plant supporting Ford Bronco and Ranger production. The Controls Engineer will play a key role in maintaining, optimizing, and improving automated systems to ensure production efficiency, equipment reliability, and quality performance. The role requires strong troubleshooting skills, hands-on technical expertise, and the ability to lead continuous improvement initiatives across operations.
Job Duties and Responsibilities

Review and debug PLC logic to ensure proper content, error-proofing, and data collection functionality

Lead root cause investigations to identify and eliminate downtime issues

Participate in lean plant floor layout activities focused on value-add, error-proofing, visual factory, and Kanban material flow

Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives across production and maintenance processes

Review, update, and maintain equipment preventive maintenance (PM) programs and critical spare parts lists

Interface with equipment vendors to ensure proper system design, build, runoff, and installation

Review and approve electrical and controls schematics, assembly system bills of materials (BOMs), and mechanical drawings for accuracy and robustness

Collaborate with Quality Engineering to develop inspection criteria, gage requirements, and control documentation

Support problem-solving activities using methodologies such as 7-Step, Error-Proofing, Histogram, Fishbone, and 5 Why

Participate in cost reduction and continuous improvement programs such as Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE) and MCM initiatives

Develop and maintain module assembly PFMEAs, Operator Instructions, Control Plans, and Process Flow Charts

Support quality and production teams as needed to maintain consistent process performance

Promote and maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
Qualifications and Experience

Minimum of 3 years of experience in Controls Engineering

Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills

Proficient with RSLogix 5000 and RSLinx (required)

Experience with fastener torque systems (preferred)

Technical proficiency in manufacturing and assembly processes, including implementation of best practices

Hands-on experience with lift assists and pneumatic devices (valves, cylinders)

Experience working with barcode scanners and RFID reader systems

Knowledge of safety equipment, including safety mats, light curtains, and e-stop circuits

Proficiency in developing PFMEAs, Operator Instructions, Control Plans, and Process Flow Charts

Working knowledge of gage and layout procedures

Demonstrated leadership, team building, problem solving, and decision-making abilities

Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project), AutoCAD, and VisView

Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Willingness to work extended hours (including weekends), support multiple shifts, and travel as needed
