Electrical Controls Engineer
Overview
We’re looking for an experienced Electrical Controls Engineer to support complex automation and power systems projects in the steel industry. This role covers the full engineering cycle—from initial concept through design, build, startup, and customer acceptance. The position requires a strong mix of technical expertise in controls, power distribution, and automation, along with the ability to lead projects and collaborate across teams.
Responsibilities

Develop and implement electrical designs for distribution systems, control architecture, and instrumentation.

Program PLC platforms (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, others) and design HMI/touchscreen applications.

Configure and support AC/DC drive systems and multi-axis servo controls (NIDEC exposure preferred).

Produce and review technical documentation, including schematics, single-line diagrams, and installation drawings.

Manage projects through all phases: customer interaction, BOM creation, build oversight, installation, and testing.

Deliver on-site commissioning, troubleshooting, and startup support.

Partner with mechanical engineers and field service staff to ensure integrated system performance.

Contribute to estimating, technical reviews, and project documentation.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Electrical Engineering Technology (BSEET).

10 years’ practical experience in industrial automation and controls.

Proficiency in PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens) with RSLogix and Step 7 familiarity.

Experience developing HMIs and integrating with control systems.

Skilled in AutoCAD for layouts, wiring diagrams, and design documentation.

Solid understanding of NEC, NFPA 70, Arc Flash, and hazardous location standards.

Proven ability to manage projects from design to commissioning.

Strong troubleshooting, communication, and team leadership skills.

Willingness to travel periodically for project assignments.
