Summary/Objective

The Mechanical Engineer will oversee projects from conception to completion, considering budgetary and operational factors. They will conduct initial and ongoing design reviews, identify process deficiencies, and devise solutions for improvement. Collaboration with sales and operations is essential for prototype development and involvement in the quoting process for potential orders.

Essential Functions

  • Provide cost estimates, lead times, and technical details for customer quotes and project proposals.
  • Design various high-current bus components, insulators, advanced switches, press welds, and other related parts.
  • Translate engineering designs into manufacturing processes using ERP routings, SolidWorks models, and other applicable tools.
  • Interpret technical documents including blueprints, drawings, schematics, and reports.
  • Evaluate customer design proposals and specifications for feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements.
  • Develop and evaluate models and processing methods for new applications or modifications.
  • Offer manufacturing support ranging from minor part design changes to full-scale project assistance.
  • Serve as the technical liaison with customers, translating their needs into actionable solutions.
  • Contribute to ongoing process improvement efforts within the Engineering Department to maintain competitiveness in the power solutions market.
  • Identify opportunities for enhancement to meet safety, quality, and productivity objectives.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Proficiency in handling customer proposals, performing quotes, and pricing.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with customers, management, colleagues, and production personnel.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with strong organizational abilities.

Work Environment

The physical demands include occasional sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Lift and movement of up to 10 pounds is frequent, occasionally up to 25 pounds. Requires close and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
  • College graduate with at least two engineering co-op experiences.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and SolidWorks for 2D and 3D design.
  • Project management experience.
  • Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems, particularly Infor Cloud Suite Industrial.
