About the Opportunity

The Senior System Administrator position is highly technical in nature. The position involves software installation and upgrades, systems problem resolution, systems security, and planning and recommendations for system upgrades. System duties are performed on a variety of virtual Windows and Linux operating system servers with an emphasis on Debian Linux server products in a VMware environment and perform maintenance on these systems. This person will apply industry best practices to ensure reliability, uptime, redundancy, and security.

This position reports to the Director of Technical Services and works closely with the Enterprise Applications Team and Infrastructure Team.

 

Where you will make an impact

· Perform operating system upgrades / patches in the Debian, Ubuntu Linux, and Windows environments after developing an upgrade / patch maintenance plan and reviewing the plan with supervisor. This includes, but is not limited to, implementing, maintaining, and enhancing the environment.

· Work with the Security Team to stay on top of vulnerability mitigation efforts and implement required changes via appropriate change control methods for the Enterprise Apps portfolio.

· Perform maintenance and clone of the ERP related systems.

· Develop, Perform and Maintain Disaster Recovery technical plan for server environment and all other ancillary systems associated to ensure business continuity for the ERP.

· Develop, install, maintain and test software to provide regular back-up and restore processing for all servers.

· Create a plan for user testing and migration to the new product level. Install new software and software upgrades for all layered products.

· Monitor system performance and propose software updates or parameter changes to enhance system performance; develop a plan for testing, implementing, and measuring the results of system performance.

· Share technical and functional expertise with other members of the team as required. Document various processing procedures for use by all IT staff members.

· Attend training sessions, read instructional manuals, and read industry periodicals to maintain a current understanding of the various operating systems and maintained software.

· Contribute to the development of yearly learning plan and complete plan as instructed by supervisor

· Maintain host-based firewalls to establish and maintain ACLs.

· Coordinate with users, local and remote IT staff, and vendors to resolve issues and maintain/upgrade systems.

· Manage integration between ERP and various other enterprise applications using various methods/platforms such as SFTP, API, Web and other relevant technologies.

· Perform related work as required.

 

What you will bring

· Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in Computer Science or related field; or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

· Knowledge of basic ITIL processes like Incident, Problem and Change Management as well as Capacity Planning.

· Proficiency in network and firewall configurations best practices to troubleshoot and effectively isolate issues and identify root cause of problems.

· Knowledge of VMware Virtualization software. Knowledge of Linux Administration processes.

· Functional understanding of Unix/Linux and Debian in particular. Deep knowledge of

Open LDAP

· Ability to tune Linux servers for speed and stability.

· Understanding of UNIX and PowerShell scripting.

· Considerable experience in systems administration functions with a focus on Debian, DNS, iptables, DHCP, Nagios monitoring software, Google email & Google Docs administration, Azure, O365, SCCM/Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager/InTune, Crowdstrike endpoint protection, ESET Anti-Virus, CBord products (CSGold), papercut print management

· Practical experience in testing and installing third party software products. Working knowledge and understanding of administration of relational databases.

· Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

 

· Must perform upgrades and keep time-sensitive servers up after-hours and as needed.
