The HR Specialist supports day-to-day HR operations in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, ensuring smooth employee lifecycle processes from onboarding to offboarding. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate employee records, supporting recruitment and training activities, coordinating benefits and payroll processes, and ensuring compliance with labor laws, the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and company policies.

Serve as the first point of contact for employee HR inquiries, directing them to the appropriate resources or escalating as needed.
Support HR initiatives that promote a positive and productive work environment.
Principal Activities
Employee Support & Relations
Assist with conflict resolution and provide guidance on HR policies and procedures.
Recruitment & Onboarding
Post job openings, coordinate interviews, and assist with candidate screening.
Prepare offer letters, new hire packets, and coordinate pre-employment requirements (e.g., drug screens, background checks).
Facilitate new hire orientation and ensure completion of onboarding documentation.
HR Records & Compliance
Maintain accurate and confidential employee files (digital and paper).
Track and update attendance, disciplinary actions, certifications, and training records.
Assist with compliance reporting for OSHA, EEOC, and state/federal regulations.
Support workers' compensation claims and return-to-work programs.
Payroll & Benefits Administration
Process payroll changes (new hires, terminations, pay adjustments, deductions).
Assist employees with benefits enrollment, changes, and questions.
Maintain time and attendance records, ensuring accuracy and addressing discrepancies.
Training & Development
Schedule and track required training sessions (safety, compliance, skills).
Maintain training logs and certifications for all employees.
Planning and Organization
Support HR projects and initiatives such as engagement programs, recognition events, and policy rollouts.
Assist with special projects and reporting as assigned by the SR. HR Manager.
Scope of Decision Making
The scope of decision-making typically involves routine yet essential administrative and personnel-related tasks. This includes assisting in the recruitment process, scheduling interviews, maintaining employee records, processing payroll and attendance data, and ensuring compliance with labor laws, the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and company policies. While strategic decisions are usually made by senior HR staff, the HR Specialist plays a critical role in implementing policies, addressing basic employee inquiries, and supporting day-to-day HR operations.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required
Essential:
High School Diploma or equivalent
1–3 years of HR or administrative experience
Knowledge of HR policies, labor laws, and best practices.
Proficiency in MS Office Suite; experience with HRIS or payroll systems preferred.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to handle confidential information with integrity.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Desirable:
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field
Experience of working in a manufacturing environment and supporting shop floor employees.
General
Work Environment:
Primarily office-based within a manufacturing plant setting.
Exposure to plant floor environment, including machinery noise and temperature variations.
Requires occasional walking in production areas, wearing PPE as required.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
May occasionally need to lift up to 20 lbs.
