Job Summary:
The primary purpose of this position is to formulate, maintain and improve the Company's products and processes using existing and new technologies, while providing technical support and assistance to manufacturing operations, sales, and customers.

The secondary purpose of this position is to prepare, process and file the Company's regulatory requirement needs to ensure accurate and timely compliance is met.


Essential Functions:

  • Assist the Sales Department with customer opportunities in conjunction with company objectives.
  • Develop and formulate new products based on customer and market demands.
  • Test and record new formulations to ensure specification and performance parameters are met using various ASTM methods and equipment.
  • Provide technical service and support to manufacturing and sales operations, customers, and suppliers.
  • Review formulas for process, materials, performance, and cost revisions; update formulations to current procedures, equipment, materials, and regulatory matters.
  • Interact with vendors and evaluate new materials for use in current formulations.
  • Travel to trade shows with Sales Department for technical support.
  • Create, maintain, and distribute SDS documents as required and enter Trading Partner information using Product Vision software.
  • Maintain, prepare, process, and file all regulatory registration and permit requirements including but not limited to Storm Water, Chemtrec, USMA, South Coast, RCRA, Waste, SARA 312, Rule 314, Fee Emissions, DOT, SARA 313, and Hazardous Chemicals.
  • Designated recipient of Chemtrec incident notifications including phone calls and reporting; Communicate all incidents to required Company personnel.

Skills / Requirements:
  • Ability to perform accurately with high attention to detail
  • Ability to read, write, comprehend, and communicate, both written and verbally, using the English language
  • Ability to effectively present information in a one-on-one and/or small group setting
  • Ability to perform basic math including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using weight measurements, volume, and distance
  • Ability to conduct detailed but involved written and oral instructions
  • Ability to comply with all safety and regulatory requirements and Company polices
  • Efficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Accurate recordkeeping including data entry and retrieval

Education / Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in science or chemistry
  • Minimum 2 years' experience as a Quality Control, Laboratory Technician or Chemist in a chemical or paint manufacturing environment
