Job Title: Sales/ Application Engineer
Reports To: General Manager
Exempt / Non-Exempt: Exempt
JOB SUMMARY: The Sales Application Engineer will be responsible for overall business development for thecompany, with a primary focus on their respective engineered product group. This role will include, but not be limited to, acquisition of new sales opportunities, technical/commercial quoting, product development and improvements, and positioning the products to fulfill market and customer related needs to grow the group. The position includes direct interface with existing/prospective customers, internal engineering support, manufacturing resources and other sales personnel.
MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Evaluate customer needs via interactive discovery process or via drawings and specification provided to create sales opportunities
Build customer base through cold call, email, and direct engagement of prospective customers
Gather supplier and internal pricing data to support proposal activity and produce technical commercial proposals
Tracks proposal metrics and maintains historical performance data
Direct follow-up on proposals and related projects and maintenance of customer relationships
Liaison support to Engineering, Purchasing, Assembly, and Test/Field Service groups
Attend Product Group related association and trade show activities
Interface with Marketing Group to support product group promotional efforts
Interface and support other sales personnel's business development activities
50% domestic travel
Create technical white papers for submission to technical journals and periodicals
General business development activities to Increase product group revenue
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
10 years' heavy industrial capital equipment experience In the steel, aluminum, scrap metals, and/or mining industries
Mechanical Engineering degree, post-secondary technical certification or equivalent work experience
Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings and related drawing tolerance designations
Working knowledge and experience using AutoCad and/or SolidWorks engineering software for visual concept drawings, presentations and to support technical and commercial offers
Understanding of market and customer base
Strong customer service and relationship development skills
Verbal, writing and presentation skills
Ability to communicate using all forms of media
Ability to travel via any common mode of transportation
Experience In technical proposal writing
Experience with MS Office products
Strong problem solving skills
Ability to understand hydraulic controls & schematics
Ability to understand electrical machine controls and control schemes
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Heavy steel fabricating and machining estimating experience
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS NEEDED
Unrestricted walking into company production facility, Customer factories and other public venues
Unrestricted vision and hearing with or without corrective aids
Exposure to fumes, noise, and changes in temperature
Hand dexterity; may require light lifting and hands on work with basic hand tools
