Nesco Resource is working with their client in Milford CT to identify and hire a qualified Buyer for a full-time direct hire opportunity.
The Buyer plays an important role in ensuring materials, components, and services are in place to meet production schedules and customer needs. This role is responsible for managing supplier relationships, negotiating pricing and terms, maintaining inventory levels, and supporting the overall stability of client's supply chain. The Buyer works closely with internal teams including planning, production, engineering, quality, and finance, contributing both to daily operations and long-term business objectives.
Responsibilities
- Manage the procurement of raw materials, components, services, and supplies to support production schedules and operational needs.
- Issue and manage purchase orders from creation through delivery, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with production requirements.
- Negotiate pricing, lead times, payment terms, and contract details with suppliers while maintaining quality and delivery standards.
- Build and maintain supplier relationships, identifying alternate sources when needed to support business continuity and reduce risk.
- Collaborate with planning, production, engineering, quality, and finance teams to ensure proper coordination of purchasing activities.
- Monitor supplier performance and proactively address any delivery, quality, or service issues.
- Conduct regular inventory reviews to maintain optimal inventory levels while minimizing excess or obsolete stock.
- Support supplier audits, evaluations, and corrective actions as necessary.
- Partner with finance to resolve invoice variances and maintain purchasing records.
- Stay informed on market conditions, material pricing trends, and supplier capabilities that may impact procurement decisions.
- Support company goals related to cost control, quality, operational performance, and continuous improvement.
- Responsible for follow-up and tracking of all work orders, purchase orders, and outside processes, reporting any past due items or delays to the Purchasing Manager and appropriate personnel.
- Generate timely status reports to keep departments apprised of current product requirement status.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Operations, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
- 2 years of purchasing, procurement, or supply chain experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems; proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to analyze data, manage competing priorities, and solve problems in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with ISO standards, ITAR compliance, and regulated industry procurement preferred.
- Proven ability to work cross-functionally while maintaining accuracy, consistency, and follow-through.
