Job Summary

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the manufacturing plant and maintaining the physical assets of the property. This position involves a wide variety of general building maintenance, site services, and manufacturing equipment repairs and services.

Essential Functions

  • Engage in safe workplace practices, communicate equipment-based safety issues to the maintenance manager/supervisor and production supervisor, and proactively address potential safety hazards.
  • Follow all environmental rules and guidelines, and report any environmental hazards to the appropriate parties.
  • Support the vision, mission, and guiding principles of the company and the facility.
  • Install or troubleshoot mechanical devices, dismantle and examine devices to remove defective parts, and adjust, repair, or replace these parts as necessary.
  • Troubleshoot electrical controls, including PLCs, motors, and variable speed drives systems, and work on power systems of 480VAC and below.
  • Install, repair, or modify hydraulic and pneumatic equipment as needed.
  • Operate forklifts and hydraulic working platforms as needed.
  • Set up and operate shop machinery, such as lathes, drill presses, grinders, band saws, cutting torches, welders, etc., and use hand and pneumatic tools to modify or repair parts and equipment.
  • Fabricate basic metal equipment using welding and other methods required to support operations.
  • Complete all assigned maintenance work to established standards in a timely and effective manner with minimal guidance.
  • Enforce the work order submittal process and ensure accurate equipment records are submitted.
  • Use the Computerized Maintenance Management System, eMaint, correctly and fully, as defined by the standards and procedures.
  • Complete all required documentation, including labor hours, part allocation, root cause analysis, repair information, and preventive maintenance data collection.
  • Complete assigned preventive maintenance tasks to limit equipment downtime.
  • Document all maintenance tasks accurately, especially those not covered by existing work orders.
  • Maintain an accurate maintenance inventory by signing in and out parts in the eMaint system and participating in regular inventory cycle counts.
  • Research necessary equipment, tools, and parts and notify the maintenance supervisor if unavailable.
  • Learn new maintenance functions as necessary to complete tasks.
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices in all maintenance areas.
  • Communicate thoroughly with production operators, supervisors, maintenance manager/supervisor, maintenance lead/scheduler, fellow maintenance technicians, and other shifts.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent. An Associate's degree or Licensed Journeyman is preferred, or commensurate experience demonstrated through a knowledge assessment.
  • Proven expertise in troubleshooting control systems, electric components, pneumatic, instrumentation, and mechanical devices.
  • Experience in industrial electrical, including design, sizing, installation, and component-level troubleshooting.
  • Experience in other maintenance fields such as plumbing, refrigeration, carpentry, welding, forklift repair, etc.
  • Competent PC skills (MS Office and Windows) are desired.

Additional Qualifications

  • Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize and adjust to rapid changes.
  • Computer experience.

Physical Demands

  • Requires the use of safety equipment, such as safety glasses and shoes, dust mask, hard hat, respirator, face shield, hearing protection, chemical suit, gloves, aprons, etc.
  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. Frequently exposed to vibration and occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock.
