Machine Operator (Non-Exempt Position)

Job Overview
This role focuses on producing high-quality medical devices within a manufacturing cell. Under close supervision, you’ll handle a mix of assembly, repair, and testing tasks on pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs), leads, and related assemblies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow specified or standardized procedures for routine assignments, with work regularly reviewed.
  • Keep job documentation for cell operations accurate and up to date.
  • Communicate ideas, problems, and solutions clearly to all levels of manufacturing management, both in writing and verbally.
  • Maintain a positive attitude when interacting with internal teams and external visitors, such as during tours.
  • Adhere to safety guidelines and use appropriate safety equipment during all tasks.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and quality initiatives to boost production processes and meet quality/profit goals.
  • Keep accurate records to ensure traceability of parts, address quality issues, and maintain product standards.
  • Show a basic understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Work with the Manufacturing Supervisor/Manager to set and track individual and team goals to improve operations.
  • Support divisional initiatives, including Quality Management Systems (QMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS), and other regulatory requirements.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Read, understand, and follow written procedures; follow verbal instructions.
  • Use electronic data collection systems and computer software effectively.
  • Prioritize tasks by sequencing and timing based on importance.
  • Handle and maneuver small components and parts.
  • Make critical decisions with minimal supervision.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Dress Code (For Interview and On-the-Job)

  • Clothing: Must be non-shedding, free of frayed hems, loose threads, tassels, fringes, glitter, sequins, or anything that could detach. Test fabric by pulling tightly—if fibers come loose, it’s not allowed. No sweaters, sweater vests, loose knits, fleece, or loose-fitting garments. All clothes must fit under a lab coat/gown, be clean, and free of visible contamination (e.g., sand, mud, lint). Turtle necks or high collars must not show above the lab coat/gown. Sleeves must not extend beyond the cuff. Skirts/pants must cover legs to the ankle; no short shirts, sleeveless tops, or skirts with slits. Full-length stockings, leggings, or pants are required under ankle-length skirts.
  • Headwear: No caps, hats, scarves, or bandanas under the bouffant. Custom head wraps/scarves must be tightly woven, clean, laundered, covered by the bouffant, and fully concealed under the lab coat/gown.
  • Footwear: Shoes must be worn at all times, with stockings or socks. Heels must not exceed 2 inches or be pointed. No sandals, clogs, slippers, open-toe, open-heel, or strapped/weave shoes where toes are visible. Shoe changes are only allowed in gowning rooms.
  • Accessories: No nail polish, acrylic nails, artificial nails, or similar coatings. No jewelry or piercings that pierce gloves or can’t be covered by gowning materials. No makeup; lip balm (stick form) is okay if applied outside production areas before hand washing. No scented products except deodorant; no lotions after hand washing.
  • Other: Cover open or bleeding wounds with a bandage. Avoid offensive clothing or items.
