Job Summary:
The Coiling Set-Up Technician is responsible for the setup, operation, maintenance, and quality assurance of torsion spring coiling machines in accordance with production specifications and safety standards. This role ensures the consistent and accurate production of spring components by following detailed setup records, quality procedures, and work instructions. $19.00 an hour. Training on 1st shift then transition to 2nd shift.
Key Responsibilities:
- Machine Setup & Operation
- Review and interpret pan tickets, setup records, and blueprints for job requirements.
- Select appropriate slides and tooling; install, maintain, and remove tooling as needed.
- Operate coiling machines efficiently, ensuring the first piece meets all specifications.
- Perform adjustments on machines to maintain quality and operational efficiency.
- Quality & Documentation
- Adhere to all quality procedures and ISO standards.
- Accurately record quality and production data.
- Reference sample parts and setup documentation for repeat orders.
- Maintain job-specific paperwork and ensure proper documentation of gauge use and calibration.
- Materials Handling
- Request delivery and confirm specifications of wire stock.
- Handle and return excess wire appropriately.
- Move completed parts to designated areas.
- Maintenance & Cleanliness
- Clean machines and maintain a tidy, organized work area.
- Perform and document preventative maintenance tasks.
- Report any maintenance issues to the supervisor promptly.
- Tooling and Measurement
- Utilize measurement tools to verify product specifications.
- Ensure personal gauges are part of the calibration program.
- Operate mills, drills, and lathes if required by specific jobs.
- Compliance & Safety
- Follow OSHA safety standards including hoist training and proper lifting techniques.
- Comply with environmental policies and site-specific quality management systems.
- Engage in Lean and 5S principles for workplace organization and efficiency.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Understanding of torsion spring design and setup processes.
- Ability to read blueprints and interpret technical documentation.
- Proficient with measurement instruments and setup verification tools.
- Knowledge of ISO and environmental policy compliance.
- Familiarity with the Quality System Procedure Manual and its location.
- Ability to perform basic mechanical tasks including tooling maintenance and machine cleaning.
Training & Certification Requirements:
- Completion of internal training covering:
- Quality policy, ISO procedures, and environmental aspects.
- Setup work instructions and routing documentation.
- Safety topics including hoist operation and back care.
- Lean manufacturing and 5S basics.
Quality Expectations:
- Immediately report suspected defective products to the production supervisor.
- Scrap any parts found on the floor to maintain product integrity and safety standards.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move materials as required.
- Extended periods of standing and manual machine operation.
Work Environment:
- Manufacturing floor with exposure to machinery, noise, and industrial materials.
