Job Title: Shipping/Receiving Technician
Pay Rate: $18.61/hour
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (Varied Weekends – May Include 1–2 Saturdays Per Contract)

Position Summary:
This position supports the Shipping and Receiving section of the laboratory. Responsibilities include preparing and shipping specimen/sample collection kits and containers, receiving supplies and specimens, and ensuring compliance with all state and federal regulations, as well as internal quality assurance and administrative procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and ship specimen/sample collection kits and containers.

  • Receive incoming specimens, supplies, and packages, including infectious and/or hazardous samples.

  • Verify sample condition and accompanying documentation; enter and verify information in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).

  • Ensure accurate documentation of activities and promptly report any concerns or irregularities to leadership.

  • Support specimen send-outs and maintain clear, professional communication with clients and internal staff.

  • Provide excellent customer service to submitters, program staff, and laboratory personnel.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with sample submissions and shipments.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

Knowledge of:

  • Laboratory terminology and procedures.

  • Proper shipping, handling, and labeling of collection kits and biological specimens.

  • Safe handling and decontamination of biological and chemical waste.

  • Quality control and quality assurance practices.

Skills in:

  • Accurate data entry and record-keeping.

  • Effective verbal and written communication.

  • Organizational and multitasking skills.

  • Safe operation of laboratory and office equipment.

  • Proficient use of technology including:

    • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)

    • Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Drive, Calendar, Hangouts)

    • Internal systems such as LIMS

Ability to:

  • Communicate clearly and professionally with staff, supervisors, and external partners.

  • Work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Follow personnel policies and procedures.

  • Assist the public, couriers, and laboratory staff with specimen-related issues.

  • Understand services provided by the laboratory and appropriate collection and submission procedures.
