Job Summary:
This position is responsible for maintaining a safe work environment for all employees and insuring CTI complies with all OSHA regulations. Through analysis and investigations, define problem/opportunity areas; implement training programs and policies to address the problem areas; direct the new employee safety orientation training.

Duties and Essential Job Functions:

  • Ensure safety training of all site leadership and employees to ensure a thorough knowledge and understanding of safety rules, regulations and guidelines.
  • Advise site leader on EHS compliance concerns and preventative actions.
  • Develop/review site risk assessments and job hazard analysis.
  • Support and coordinate safety committee meetings and actions.
  • Maintain/verify employee training records are up to date and accurate.
  • Implement Corporate EHS programs and training materials as needed.
  • Provide safety input on PPE in collaboration with Food Safety and Quality representatives.
  • Responsible for facility compliance with all OSHA, state and federal regulations. This includes implementing new programs within OSHA time frames.
  • Report worker's compensation claims to carrier and manage through closure.
  • Complete incident investigations, root cause analyses and review with site leadership to prevent future incidents.
  • Collaborate with HR and site leadership on back-to-work programs for employees injured on the job.
  • Assist engineering with EPA and environmental reporting and program development.
  • Develop, implement and manage plant safety audit and inspection programs. Manage corrective/preventive action registers as part of the program.
  • Responsible for the follow-up of safety related corrective actions to ensure they are executed and sustained.
  • Work closely with production personnel and assist with environmental, health and safety issues.
  • Complete daily, weekly and monthly testing and inspections for various EHS tasks.
  • Provide global reporting and data analysis related to EHS metrics and corporate agenda.
  • Analyze trends from metrics and reports to implement new strategies for safety improvement.
  • Provide expertise and support to other EHS personnel.
  • Share and report on best practices or incidents with other sites.
  • Manage department allocation of resources.
  • Ability to support a flexible schedule.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Technical Skills:
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must possess leadership, presentation and training skills, organization, and planning abilities.
  • Provide hands-on training and coaching of others.

Requirements:
  • 3 or more years in EHS with heavy focus on safety.
  • Intermediate to advanced expertise in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to travel 20%.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited 4-year university in Environmental Health, Occupational Safety, or related discipline.

Preferred But Not Required:
  • CPR/First Aid Certified.
  • Experience with training matrixes or learning management systems.
  • OSHA 501 Certified.
  • Food manufacturing experience.
  • Demonstrated experience significantly lowering recordable incident rates.

Manager Responsibilities:
  • No direct reports.

Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged standing, sitting, walking, reading, writing, talking, use of computer.
  • Hearing ability for verbal communication via telephone systems, and person – to –person.
  • Clear concise speaking ability to provide information and instruction.
  • Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
  • Manual and tactile dexterity for palpation, use of computer keyboard/typing, writing, handling/ sorting objects and forms.
  • Flexibility and body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling, standing, reaching, lifting and moving objects and equipment (approximately 25lbs. or more with assistance), sitting.
  • Able to meet physical demands of the job with assistive or adaptive devices or reasonable accommodations.

Work Environment:
  • Work is primarily indoors and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours in response to incidents or other emergencies.
  • Work is 70% sedentary and 30% active through site walks, training, and incident response.
  • The production floor is typically 40 but may range as cold as 10 in freezers or as hot as 100 in oven rooms.
  • The production floor requires the use of PPE including hearing protection, bump cap, and boots.
  • The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
