Position Summary
The Tool & Die Maintenance Manager directs and supports all activities related to tool and die maintenance, repair, new tool builds, and continuous improvement initiatives within a stamping manufacturing environment. This role ensures tooling systems operate at optimal efficiency to support production goals, minimize downtime, and maintain high-quality output.
The position works collaboratively with engineering, production, and quality teams to resolve tooling issues through structured problem-solving and root cause analysis while driving long-term tooling reliability improvements.
Key Responsibilities

Oversee repair, sharpening, and preventive maintenance of progressive, transfer, blanking, and other stamping dies

Troubleshoot complex tooling failures and coordinate rapid response to production downtime events

Manage new tool builds, die tryouts, engineering changes, and tooling modifications

Ensure accurate documentation of die repairs, revisions, and tooling improvements

Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for tooling-related failures and implement corrective actions

Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to improve tool performance and part quality

Prioritize and schedule tooling work to support efficient manufacturing operations

Provide leadership, training, and mentorship to toolmakers and maintenance personnel

Support continuous improvement initiatives related to tooling reliability, safety, and efficiency
Qualifications

5–10 years of tool and die experience in a stamping environment

3 years of hands-on leadership or supervisory experience required

Expert knowledge of progressive die systems and stamping operations

Strong ability to troubleshoot and repair complex dies under production conditions

Experience with die builds, repairs, maintenance, and modifications

Proficient with micrometers, indicators, surface grinders, and CNC/manual machining equipment

Ability to read and interpret GD&T drawings, die designs, and engineering prints

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Leadership mindset focused on accountability, mentoring, and continuous improvement

Objective of Role
Ensure all tooling systems are maintained in a state of operational readiness, minimizing downtime while improving tool life, performance, and overall manufacturing efficiency.
