Overview

Client is seeking a Senior Network Automation Engineer to lead the design, development, and operation of large-scale network automation solutions across enterprise environments. This role is ideal for a hands-on technical leader with deep Arista automation expertise, strong Infrastructure-as-Code practices, and proven experience building CI/CD pipelines for network automation. The engineer will work closely with network engineering, operations, security, cloud, and platform teams to drive standardization, scalability, and operational efficiency.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead network automation initiatives across routing, switching, data center, and campus environments
  • Design, develop, and maintain Arista AVD-based automation for Day-0, Day-1, and Day-2 operations
  • Translate network standards and designs into reusable automation artifacts, including roles, collections, templates, and pipelines
  • Drive Infrastructure-as-Code practices for network provisioning, configuration, and compliance
  • Architect and maintain CI/CD pipelines for network automation using Git-based platforms and enterprise pipeline tools
  • Implement automated testing, validation, and deployment workflows for network changes
  • Enforce version control, branching strategies, peer reviews, and release management standards
  • Integrate automation workflows with enterprise systems such as ITSM, IPAM, and source-of-truth platforms where applicable
  • Develop compliance checks and remediation workflows for network configurations
  • Produce technical documentation, runbooks, standards, and automation usage guides
  • Participate in architecture reviews and provide technical guidance on major network and automation changes
  • Mentor network and automation engineers and serve as an escalation point for complex issues

Essential Qualifications, Skills, and Technologies

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology
  • 7 years of network engineering experience in large enterprise or service provider environments
  • 5 years of hands-on network automation experience, including large-scale deployments
  • Strong production experience with Arista automation using AVD in enterprise environments
  • Advanced experience with Ansible, Python, YAML, and JSON
  • Proven expertise building and operating CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure or network automation
  • Strong knowledge of Git-based workflows, code reviews, and release management
  • Deep understanding of enterprise networking concepts including routing, switching, EVPN/VXLAN, BGP, and OSPF
  • Experience with device APIs and modern automation interfaces such as eAPI, REST, and gNMI
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across technical teams and stakeholders

Preferred Skills or Experience

  • Experience integrating network automation with ITSM platforms such as ServiceNow
  • Exposure to cloud networking automation in AWS, Azure, and hybrid environments
  • Experience in manufacturing or OT network environments
  • Familiarity with testing frameworks, linting tools, and automation validation pipelines
  • Experience leading automation frameworks, standards, and technical best practices

Work Details

  • Location: Hybrid, preferred 1-2 days per week onsite; candidates within 1 hour of Charlotte, NC or Corning, NY preferred
  • Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM; overtime possible; some flexibility required to support global teams
  • Travel: Up to 5% domestic travel for Corning, NY candidates; expected quarterly onsite travel to Charlotte, NC
  • Contract Length: 12-month assignment with possible extension
