Job Title: Woodsman
Hours:
Monday – Thursday: 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Friday (overtime): 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Total: ~50 hours per week
Pay:
$16.00 – $22.00 per hour
Summary
Builds wooden crates and boxes and prepares items for shipment, including large or irregularly shaped products.
Key Responsibilities
- Read blueprints, shipping orders, and specifications
- Measure and mark materials for cutting
- Cut wood to size using saws
- Assemble crates and containers
- Place and secure products inside containers
- Bolt heavy items to skids or crate bases
- Wrap and pad products for protection
- Build crates around large or irregular items
- Nail and secure crate covers
- Apply metal bands to reinforce crates
- Label crates with shipping details (destination, weight, contents)
- Count items to ensure accuracy of shipments
- Weigh completed crates
- Move finished crates to shipping areas
- Transport materials and supplies as needed
Requirements
- Ability to follow instructions and read basic diagrams or blueprints
- Basic measuring and cutting skills
- Ability to operate hand and power tools
- Ability to learn new tasks quickly
- Reliable attendance
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, and reaching
- Regular lifting up to 20 lbs
- Frequent lifting up to 35 lbs
- Occasional lifting up to 75 lbs
- Good vision (close, peripheral, depth perception)
Work Environment
- Exposure to moving machinery and sawdust
- Loud noise levels
