Structural Engineer (PE)

Summary

A licensed Professional Structural Engineer (PE) will lead the design, analysis, and validation of structural components for industrial heat exchange systems and related infrastructure. This role combines advanced engineering expertise, regulatory compliance, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure the safety, performance, and efficiency of structural assets.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform structural design of air-cooled heat exchangers in accordance with ASCE, AISC, CISC, API 661, and applicable customer specifications.

  • Serve as the Structural Engineer of Record, reviewing, approving, and stamping project drawings and calculations.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain corporate and site-specific structural engineering standards.

  • Prepare detailed design calculations and drawings, including finite element analysis (FEA) and static/dynamic load analysis.

  • Review and verify structural designs and drawings prepared by other engineers.

  • Collaborate with sales, customers, fabrication teams, and drafting personnel to ensure project alignment.

  • Provide technical support for troubleshooting and evaluation of existing structures and manufacturing equipment.

  • Maintain regular attendance, punctuality, and the ability to work on-site and overtime as needed.

  • Work effectively in a team environment and maintain professional interactions with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while supporting departmental needs.


Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.


Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Structural or Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.

  • Active Professional Engineering (PE) license required.

  • Ability and willingness to obtain licensure in additional U.S. states and Canadian provinces as needed.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in structural design and finite element analysis.

  • Knowledge of welded steel fabrication practices.

  • Proficiency in drafting and design software.

  • Experience with STAAD-Pro, AutoCAD, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.

  • Working knowledge of ASCE, AISC, and CISC standards.


Language Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documents, professional publications, and regulatory materials in English.

  • Strong written communication skills for reports, correspondence, and technical documentation.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from stakeholders.


Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts including exponents, logarithms, and quadratic equations.

  • Proficiency in statistical analysis methods such as variance, correlation, and sampling techniques.


Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to define problems, collect and analyze data, and draw sound conclusions.

  • Capable of interpreting complex technical instructions in mathematical or graphical formats and managing multiple variables.


Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to sit, use hands, and reach with arms.

  • Frequently required to stand, speak, and hear.

  • Occasionally required to walk, climb, balance, and perform physical movements such as stooping or kneeling.

  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds occasionally.

  • Vision requirements include close, distance, color, and depth perception.


Work Environment

  • Work may involve exposure to humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, elevated locations, and vibration.

  • Noise levels are typically moderate.
