We are seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to serve as the most senior engineering leader within a lean organization. This role is responsible for engineering leadership, product development, and cross-functional coordination while building scalable processes and developing engineering talent. The Senior Engineering Manager will operate with broad technical authority and strategic influence, focusing on leadership, product lifecycle ownership, and decision-making with some routine hands-on execution. This role is designed to scale as the engineering organization grows.
Key Responsibilities
Hands-On Engineering Oversite & Strategy
- Design and develop products from concept to completion using Solidworks and occasionally AutoCAD.
- Lead all new product development efforts from concept through launch.
- Define product offerings, technical features, and competitive differentiation. Establish engineering direction, standards, and best practices across the organization.
- Own and continuously improve the formal product lifecycle process.
People Management & Development
- Directly manage and mentor engineering staff
- Set priorities, balance workloads, and ensure effective delegation of engineering work.
- Conduct performance management, coaching, and career development planning.
- Build a collaborative, accountable, and scalable engineering team culture.
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Partner with Marketing on product positioning, technical documentation, and launch readiness.
- Collaborate with Purchasing and Production to ensure manufacturability, cost alignment, and smooth product transitions.
- Support Sales with technical enablement, escalation resolution, and pricing input as needed.
- Act as the primary engineering liaison across internal departments.
Process & Systems Ownership
- Establish and maintain engineering processes, documentation standards, and governance.
- Oversee accurate creation and maintenance of part numbers, BOMs, drawings, and ERP data.
- Ensure disciplined change control and data integrity across engineering systems
Communication & Executive Support
- Provide clear, concise visibility to executive leadership on project status, risks, and resource needs.
- Translate technical challenges into business impacts to support decision-making.
- Lead strategic engineering initiatives while delegating execution to the team.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field (Master's preferred).
- 8 years of progressive engineering experience.
- 3 years in an engineering leadership or management role.
- Strong proficiency in SolidWorks, with the ability to create and modify detailed 3D models and technical drawings.
- Strong technical foundation with experience in product development and manufacturing environments.
- Demonstrated ability to lead small teams with broad scope and high autonomy.
- Excellent communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in small to mid-sized or growing organizations.
- Exposure to ERP systems, CAD platforms, and BOM governance.
- Track record of building structure, process, or standards where they did not previously exist.
- Experience mentoring engineers across multiple experience levels.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD.
- Familiarity with Fusion 360.
Salary range: $125,000 - $150,000
