The Drafting Technician creates, updates, and maintains 3D models and detailed drawings in support of mechanical and architectural projects. This role applies advanced CAD skills, drafting standards, and mechanical design knowledge to develop accurate design documentation. The technician works independently on most assignments, resolves complex drafting issues, and collaborates with engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure designs meet technical, quality, and schedule requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Create and maintain 3D models and 2D drawings using SolidWorks
Perform redline corrections based on engineering, manufacturing, and field input
Release drawings, models, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) through EPDM
Develop conceptual 3D models during early design phases
Ensure compliance with drafting standards, design requirements, and document control procedures
Recommend process improvements and meet project deadlines while maintaining confidentiality
Required Qualifications
Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree
5 years of drafting or design experience
Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks and EPDM
Ability to read, interpret, and work with complex models and drawings
General understanding of mechanical design principles
Working knowledge of drafting and design standards
Ability to work independently under limited supervision and solve complex problems
Preferred Qualifications
7 years of relevant experience
Welding and fabrication knowledge or hands-on experience
Demonstrated ability to generate new ideas and contribute to problem-solving during the design phase
