Nesco Resource has partnered with a precision manufacturing organization supporting aerospace and defense programs that demand extremely tight tolerances, rigorous quality standards, and disciplined supplier controls. Our client is seeking a Senior Quality Engineer with deep hands-on metrology experience to support dimensional inspection, supplier quality, and continuous improvement initiatives across high-reliability RF and electronic components.

This role is ideal for a quality professional who enjoys being close to the product, influencing suppliers, and working cross-functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain to ensure measurement accuracy and compliance to aerospace standards.

Position Summary

The Senior Quality Engineer is responsible for advanced dimensional inspection, measurement system validation, supplier quality oversight, and problem resolution in a precision manufacturing environment. This role plays a critical part in maintaining compliance with aerospace quality systems while ensuring product integrity from incoming supplier components through final assembly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced dimensional inspection of precision components and assemblies using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, optical comparators, and multi-sensor measurement systems

  • Develop, review, and improve inspection methodologies, measurement plans, and work instructions

  • Conduct and analyze measurement system studies, including Gage R&R and uncertainty analysis

  • Lead First Article Inspections (FAI) and customer-required inspection documentation in accordance with AS9102

  • Investigate measurement-related nonconformances and support root cause and corrective action activities

  • Partner with Engineering to interpret complex drawings and GD&T requirements per ASME Y14.5

  • Provide technical guidance and informal mentorship to Inspectors and Engineering teams

  • Lead root cause and corrective/preventive action efforts (RCCA, 8D, DMAIC) related to supplier issues and internal escapes

  • Review and evaluate supplier documentation including FAI packages and SCAR responses

  • Collaborate with Design and Manufacturing Engineering on supplier-related performance, reliability, and manufacturability issues

  • Monitor supplier performance metrics such as yield, defect rates, and on-time delivery

  • Lead supplier continuous improvement initiatives and corrective action follow-up

  • Perform supplier audits (on-site and remote), including initial qualification, surveillance, and special process audits

  • Travel to supplier sites as required (typically 10–25%)

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong understanding of dimensional metrology principles and best practices

  • Demonstrated expertise interpreting complex engineering drawings and GD&T per ASME Y14.5

  • Experience managing quality documentation and controlled records

  • Familiarity with MIL-STD requirements relevant to aerospace and RF electronics

  • High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a regulated manufacturing environment

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence internal teams and suppliers

  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills

  • Leadership mindset with a willingness to mentor and share technical expertise

  • Ability to work with ITAR-controlled data

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Manufacturing, Mechanical, or related discipline) or equivalent experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in metrology, quality engineering, or dimensional inspection within a precision manufacturing environment

  • Prior experience supporting aerospace and/or defense manufacturing programs

  • Exposure to RF, microwave, or precision electronic components preferred

  • Working knowledge of AS9100, ISO 9001, and AS9102 First Article Inspection requirements
