Job Title: Welding Quality Inspector (CWI)
The Welding Quality Inspector (CWI) job involves visually inspecting, testing, and verifying welded parts meet required standards, customer specs, and codes (like AWS), using tools like calipers and gauges, reading blueprints, documenting findings, and working with production to ensure quality, safety, and compliance in manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspection: Perform visual checks and potentially NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) on welds and components.
- Code Compliance: Ensure adherence to reequired standards, customer requirements, and welding codes (e.g., AWS D1.1).
- Documentation: Review welding procedures (WPS/PQR) and record inspection results, non-conformances, and corrective actions.
- Collaboration: Work with welders, engineers, and supervisors to resolve quality issues and support continuous improvement.
- Measurement: Use precision tools (calipers, gauges) for dimensional checks.
- Reporting: Write detailed reports on inspection findings.
- Certification: AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification is typically required.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of welding processes (MIG, robotic, etc.), welding symbols, and codes.
- Reading: Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Communication: Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Checking if a weld bead is smooth and has proper penetration.
- Verifying the correct filler metal and settings were used for a specific joint.
- Confirming dimensions of a welded assembly match the engineering drawing.
- Identifying defects like porosity, undercut, or cracks.
