Accounting Department
Accounting Manager (3 day per week/24 hour work week)
Essential Functions
The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the financial operations of a custom manufacturing company, including: Financial Reporting, Budgeting and Forecasting, Internal Controls and Compliance, Financial Analysis, Cash Management, Cost Accounting, Tax Planning and Compliance, Department Leadership and Development, and Insurances.Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor and work alongside a team of three responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, job costing and payroll.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Financial Management:
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, to provide accurate and timely reporting to stakeholders.
- Conduct financial analysis, including variance analysis, trend analysis, and key performance indicators (KPIs), to identify areas for improvement and support decision-making. Provide insights and recommendations to management based on analysis to optimize financial performance and mitigate risks.
- Develop annual operating budgets and long-term financial forecasts in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders to support strategic planning and decision-making.
- Monitor budget variances and provide insights to management on areas of concern or opportunity.
- Manage cash flow and liquidity by monitoring cash balances, forecasting cash needs, and optimizing cash resources.
- Oversee banking relationships, including bank account reconciliations, debt management, and compliance with loan covenants.
- Establish, maintain and enforce internal control policies and procedures to safeguard company assets, prevent fraud, and ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
- Coordinate and facilitate internal and external audits to assess the effectiveness of internal controls and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Accounting/Administrative Operations:
- Supervise the day-to-day operations of the accounting department.
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of invoices, payments, and reconciliations.
- Review and approve journal entries, adjustments, and accruals to maintain accurate financial records.
- Coordinate with external auditors and tax consultants to facilitate audits and ensure compliance with tax regulations.
- Administrator of the Employees Savings & Trust (401K program)
- Responsible for implementing, training, and overseeing the company Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System. Serve as primary point of contact for troubleshooting and addressing any system-related issues, overseeing regular maintenance, updating and optimization efforts.
Cost Management:
- Implement cost accounting methodologies to accurately allocate overhead expenses and determine product profitability while identifying cost-saving opportunities.
Strategic Planning:
- Collaborate with senior management to develop long-term financial strategies that align with company goals and objectives.
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support investment decisions and capital expenditure projects.
Team Leadership:
- Lead and mentor a team of accounting professionals (AR/AP/Costing & PR), providing guidance, training, and performance feedback to foster professional development and ensure high-quality work output.
- Cultivate a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and provide strategic insights.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally and interact at all levels of the company.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Familiarity with ERP systems and accounting software.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with advanced MS Excel Skills
- Willingness to learn various aspects of the company and an eagerness to understand the day-to-day operations including a proactive effort to understand markets, equipment inventory and its condition, as well as pertinent knowledge regarding union regulations and dynamics.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field.
- Five (10) years of progressive experience in accounting and financial management, preferably in the manufacturing or industrial sector.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP principles, financial reporting standards and regulatory requirements.
