Job Description
General Overview
The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for following instructions from the Maintenance Supervisor and adhering to all safety policies, including lockout procedures. This role involves assisting in training other mechanics, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining tile plant machinery and auxiliary equipment. The mechanic must read downtime reports and checklists, perform accurate and timely preventive maintenance, and report repair needs or required parts to the supervisor verbally or in writing. The position requires a respectful, ethical approach, integrity, accountability, and alignment with organizational vision, values, and objectives, while collaborating effectively with coworkers.
Essential Functions
- Follow checklist procedures diligently.
- Review downtime reports and perform necessary repairs and adjustments.
- Troubleshoot issues, identify problems, and execute appropriate repairs.
- Remove and replace motors and parts.
- Disassemble and rebuild motors.
- Identify, repair, or replace worn components (e.g., chains, sprockets, gearboxes, ropes, pulleys).
- Maintain and repair all sections of the production line (e.g., tile machine, grouper, racker, cars, packager).
- Clean the line before performing maintenance or repairs.
- Adhere to safety guidelines at all times.
- Assist and train personnel as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum of five years of mechanical experience, preferably with production machinery.
- Ability to meet productivity standards, complete work promptly, and enhance efficiency.
- Punctuality required; must clock in/out for shifts and rest periods.
- Must provide own hand tools (e.g., wrenches, hammers, screwdrivers; refer to list).
- Proficiency in general mechanics, independent troubleshooting, and timely repair of the tile line (90-day introductory period).
Technical Proficiencies (Required Independently):
- Welding skills.
- Gas torch cutting ability.
- Motor removal and replacement expertise.
- Fundamental electrical work knowledge.
- Experience with conveyors, mixing systems, and extrusion.
- Troubleshooting capabilities.
- Alignment and adjustment skills.
- Extensive knowledge of hand tools, drill bit sizes, and their applications.
- Proficiency with air tools and electrical hand tools.
- Understanding and troubleshooting of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic systems, clutch brakes, and motorized equipment.
Work Environment
- Required to wear issued uniform properly.
- Exposure to loud, heavy machinery.
- Indoor facility without air conditioning or heating.
- Occasional outside repairs on sand conveyor systems.
- Up to 4 hours of daily overtime may be required.
- Potential to work 6-7 days per week and varying shifts (day/night).
- On-call availability as needed.
- Dusty conditions with cement and sand.
- Uncomfortable working situations are common.
