Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Lathe Operator to join our custom manufacturing team. The ideal candidate will have experience operating manual and/or CNC lathes to produce custom fittings, threads, tapers, grooves, and other features to exact specifications. This role requires a strong attention to detail, knowledge of machining practices, and a commitment to safety and quality.
Key Responsibilities:

Set up and operate manual and/or CNC lathes to manufacture custom components according to blueprints, work orders, or verbal instructions.

Measure, mark, and inspect raw material to determine best method for machining.

Cut, thread, bore, taper, and groove to custom dimensions using appropriate tools and techniques.

Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and job specifications.

Select appropriate tooling, speeds, feeds, and cutting paths for efficient operation.

Use precision measuring instruments (e.g., calipers, micrometers, gauges) to verify workpiece conformance to specs.

Perform routine maintenance on machines and report any issues.

Maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with safety and housekeeping standards.

Collaborate with other team members including welders, inspectors, and supervisors to meet production goals.

Complete necessary production paperwork and logs accurately and timely.
Qualifications:

Minimum of 2 years of experience operating lathes (manual and/or CNC) in a metalworking, or machining environment.

Familiarity with threading standards (NPT, BSP, etc.) and machining processes is strongly preferred.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and schematics.

Strong understanding of machining tolerances and quality control practices.

Proficiency with measuring tools and shop math.

Good manual dexterity and physical stamina; ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for long periods.
