Position Summary:

The Mechanical Engineer – Complex Aerospace Parts Estimating is responsible for providing detailed and accurate cost estimates for complex aerospace components and assemblies. This role requires strong mechanical engineering expertise combined with cost estimating skills to support procurement with cost/price reasonableness analysis, and to support the cost/price estimating team to provide labor estimates for a variety of aerospace manufacturing programs, commodities and parts.

Key Responsibilities:
Cost Estimation & Analysis
Develop detailed cost estimates for complex aerospace parts including machined components, castings, forgings, other commodities and assemblies using engineering drawings, specifications, and historical data.
Technical Review
Analyze engineering drawings, bills of materials (BOM), and manufacturing processes to validate supplier cost estimates.
Collaboration & Communication
Work cross-functionally with design engineers, manufacturing, procurement, and pricing teams to gather technical and cost/price data, and identify similar parts with complexity factors for comparison purposes to support price reasonableness analyses.
Estimating Tools & Methods
Utilize industry-standard techniques and apply learning curves, material cost trends, and manufacturing process knowledge.
Documentation & Reporting
Prepare detailed "similar to analyses,” estimating reports, and assumptions to support price reasonable analyses proposals. Additionally, prepare labor hour estimates where historical actuals are not available in support out of production spare part proposal submittals.
Continuous Improvement
Identify and implement improvements in estimating methodologies and data accuracy.

Education:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.

Experience:
5-15 years of experience in mechanical engineering with a focus on aerospace parts manufacturing and cost estimating.

Technical Skills:
Proficient in reading and interpreting complex engineering drawings and specifications.
Knowledge of aerospace manufacturing processes (machining, casting, forging).
Experience with cost estimating techniques and tools.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Soft Skills:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Additional Knowledge:
Understanding of supply chain and procurement processes.
Knowledge of learning curves, material price trends, and labor rates.
