Summary

The Field Calibration Technician will provide on-site calibration of test equipment for customers within the assigned region (typically within an 8-hour radius). When not traveling, this role will also support the local calibration laboratory. This is a travel-based position, requiring Monday–Friday availability with overnight stays; technicians are typically home on weekends. All lodging and travel expenses are company-paid.


Responsibilities

Major Areas of Responsibility

  • Calibrate measurement and test equipment (M&TE) to manufacturer specifications.

  • Identify and document out-of-tolerance conditions for customer M&TE and calibration standards.

  • Perform corrective actions, such as adjustments or minor repairs, when equipment is out of tolerance.

  • Accurately update and maintain calibration documentation and service records.

  • Provide feedback and recommendations on calibration practices and procedures.

  • Maintain calibration standards in compliance with quality requirements.

  • Communicate effectively with customers regarding services and equipment needs.

  • Submit and update all required paperwork for travel and administrative purposes.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Travel Requirements

  • Travel Monday–Friday to customer facilities.

  • Overnight travel required during the week (company-paid lodging and expenses).

  • Home on weekends 95% of the time.


Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Calibration experience and/or equivalent training with commercial and/or biomedical M&TE.

  • Strong self-motivation with the ability to work independently.

  • Excellent customer service skills with professional communication.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, internet tools, and basic database functionality.

  • Valid driver’s license with 3 years of driving experience and an acceptable driving record.

Education & Experience

  • Associate degree in a technical field; OR 2–5 years of relevant calibration experience/training; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Military PMEL training.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written procedures.

  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to plan and prioritize workloads.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.


Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand for long periods (up to 8 hours/day).

  • Frequent use of hands and fingers to handle tools and equipment.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly and occasionally up to 75 lbs.

  • Ability to maneuver a 400-pound cart from unloading area to service area.

  • Occasional walking, reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.

Work Environment

  • Regular exposure to risks of electrical shock.

  • Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts.

  • Occasional exposure to wet/humid conditions, heights, airborne particles, chemicals, outdoor weather, and vibration.
