Nesco Data Center & Infrastructure is seeking a Technical Network Consultant in the Greater Milwaukee WI area on a contract basis. 

The Network Consultant serves as both a hands-on technical expert and a trusted technology advisor to clients. This role combines proactive network support and maintenance with strategic consulting to ensure clients' IT environments are secure, efficient, and aligned with their business goals. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable troubleshooting complex network issues and explaining technology recommendations in clear, business-focused language.


Key Responsibilities:

Technical Delivery & Support

  • Provide proactive monitoring, maintenance, and optimization of client networks, servers, and related infrastructure.

  • Respond to and resolve escalated technical issues, ensuring minimal downtime and business disruption.

  • Configure, manage, and troubleshoot network equipment (switches, routers, firewalls, wireless access points).

  • Administer and maintain Microsoft Server environments, Azure cloud resources, or VMware virtualization platforms depending on project requirements.

  • Implement and maintain backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity strategies.

  • Perform network assessments and document findings, including areas for improvement.

Client Advisory & Relationship Management

  • Partner with clients to understand their business objectives and translate them into practical technology strategies.

  • Provide clear, actionable recommendations for improving network performance, security posture, and overall IT efficiency.

  • Explain technical concepts in plain, relatable language that non-technical stakeholders can understand.

  • Serve as the client's trusted advisor, helping guide IT investments and modernization efforts.

Project Work & Strategic Initiatives

  • Lead or contribute to infrastructure upgrade projects, cloud migrations, virtualization deployments, and security enhancements.

  • Coordinate with internal teams and vendors to ensure successful project delivery on scope, time, and budget.

  • Keep current with emerging technologies and evaluate their potential business impact for clients.


Required Skills & Competencies:

Technical Skills (Intermediate in at least 2 of the following 4 areas)

  1. Networking: LAN/WAN, VLANs, VPNs, DNS, DHCP, routing protocols, firewall administration.

  2. Microsoft Servers: Active Directory, Group Policy, Windows Server roles/services.

  3. Azure Cloud: Azure AD, virtual machines, cloud storage, cost optimization, hybrid integration.

  4. VMware Virtualization: ESXi hosts, vCenter, VM provisioning, resource optimization.

Soft Skills

  • Exceptional communication and presentation abilities.

  • Strong relationship-building skills with both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Analytical mindset with the ability to quickly diagnose issues and develop effective solutions.

  • Proactive, self-directed, and capable of managing multiple priorities.

  • High level of professionalism, reliability, and client service orientation.


Experience & Education:

  • Experience: 3–5 years in IT consulting, systems administration, or network engineering roles.

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field preferred; equivalent experience accepted.

  • Certifications: Industry certifications such as CompTIA Network , Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, Cisco CCNA, or VMware VCP are a plus.
