Lead Buyer (Strategic/Project Buyer)

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Department: Indirect Spend – *** Protective Materials
Reports to: Hub Manager

Position Purpose

The Lead Buyer is responsible for capturing all indirect spend for assigned sites and projects within the Hub. This role implements approved sourcing strategies in line with corporate requirements to achieve defined KPIs, drive cost savings, improve supplier performance, and contribute to the overall business results of ***.


Key Responsibilities

1. Safety, Health, Environment (SHE) & Security

  • Demonstrate behavior in line with SHE and security standards, policies, and procedures.

  • Address unsafe behavior and report incidents or risks to management.

  • Comply with security protocols, including employee agreements, NDAs, intellectual property protections, and restricted use of company assets.

  • Participate in assigned manufacturing excellence roles to optimize operational performance.

4. Strategic Sourcing & Procurement

  • Serve as the first point of contact for all stakeholders at supported sites for purchases 

  • Capture all indirect spend and define sourcing approaches aligned with site and hub strategies.

  • Develop annual sourcing plans for assigned sites.

  • Execute sourcing strategies using preferred contracts, competitive bidding, spot buying, or specification-sourcing processes with category management.

  • Manage stakeholder feedback to identify total cost of ownership (TCO) reduction and value creation opportunities.

5. Negotiation & Contract Management

  • Prepare and lead fact-based negotiations for projects 

  • Lead contract implementation, resolve issues, and evaluate renewals for cost and efficiency improvements.

  • Ensure compliance with strategic sourcing methodology (SSM) and best practices.

6. Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Lead cross-functional and multi-business group (BG) sourcing teams.

  • Provide guidance and direction to team members throughout the sourcing process.

  • Facilitate collaboration to achieve sourcing objectives.

7. Supplier Relationship Management

  • Develop and maintain relationships with preferred and approved suppliers.

  • Conduct supplier performance evaluations and agree on improvement plans.

  • Manage non-performance issues, process claims, and drive spend toward preferred suppliers.

  • Identify contract improvement opportunities and lead re-negotiations.

8. Category Management Support

  • Provide relevant business needs and feedback to category management.

  • Enforce contract compliance and recommend changes as needed.


Decision-Making Authority

  • Conclude and implement contracts valued within authorized limits.

  • Determine optimal supply base for assigned sites in line with category strategies.

  • Lead cross-functional teams and supplier performance improvement initiatives.


Complexity of the Role

  • Manage a centrally led, locally executed indirect spend program requiring stakeholder buy-in and compliance.

  • Consolidate supplier base and drive spend to preferred suppliers.

  • Influence stakeholder mindset toward strategic sourcing adoption.

  • Balance short- and long-term objectives across diverse businesses, markets, cultures, and geographies.

  • Lead complex multi-BG teams with differing objectives.


Qualifications & Experience

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Engineering, or related field (preferred).

  • Recognized qualification in Purchasing (preferred).

Experience:

  • 3 years in Indirect Purchasing, Business Intelligence, or Marketing & Sales.

  • Proven negotiation and contracting skills.

  • Strong understanding of site and hub business needs.

  • Experience in change management.

Knowledge:

  • Category knowledge of products, services, and contracts.

  • In-depth knowledge of indirect spend market dynamics, innovation, and growth opportunities.

  • Understanding of *** global businesses.
