Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Structural Steel Estimator to join our team. This role involves accurately estimating costs for steel fabrication and erection on commercial projects. On-the-job training will be provided to support the unique aspects of the work.
Responsibilities
- Review project specifications, drawings, and related documents to determine required quantities of materials, labor, and equipment.
- Calculate costs for steel fabrication and erection based on current market prices and established labor/equipment rates.
- Prepare detailed estimates, including material takeoffs, pricing, and labor/equipment costs.
- Collaborate with the project management team to develop budgets and schedules.
- Engage with vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors to gather pricing and availability data for materials and services.
- Submit bids accurately and on time.
- Participate in bid review meetings with management to finalize proposals.
- Enhance the estimating process by adopting new technologies and methodologies.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Requirements
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills, including proficiency in basic algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and general estimating software.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Strong time management and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with industry standards and codes for steel fabrication.
- Capability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings from multiple disciplines.
- Experience in structural steel estimating is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Demonstrated ability to perform high-quality material takeoffs quickly and accurately under tight deadlines, with knowledge of preconstruction, bid-level proposals, and change order processes.
- Expect to spend approximately six hours daily sitting and working at a computer, with the remainder involving walking or standing. Occasional handling of structural drawings may be required, along with infrequent shop visits.
