Paint Belt Layout
Schedule:Monday through Thursday, 6AM to 4:30PM Plus Overtime
Pay:$18-20

Job Responsibilities:

1. Surface Preparation for Paint:

  • Perform thorough sanding of vehicle surfaces using both manual and power sanding tools (DA sanders, hand blocks, etc.).

  • Use body filler (Bondo) to smooth out surface imperfections; sand and shape to match vehicle contours.

  • Mask/tape off all components and sections not to be painted, including windows, lights, trim, decals, and equipment.

  • Use chemical solvents and cleaners to degrease and wash surfaces, ensuring proper paint adhesion.

  • Ensure every vehicle is free of dirt, dust, oil, and contaminants prior to paint booth entry.

2. Light & Heavy Body Work:

  • Repair minor dents, dings, and scratches using appropriate techniques (hammer/dolly, filler, etc.).

  • Occasionally complete more extensive body repairs including:

    • Welding or patching small holes or cracks

    • Repairing collision damage or major dents

    • Aligning and reshaping body panels and doors

  • Inspect structural integrity of panels and report any issues that may affect paint quality.

3. Finishing & Polishing:

  • After painting, perform buffing and polishing with compounds to eliminate paint defects like orange peel, runs, or overspray.

  • Final finish should meet high standards of gloss, smoothness, and uniformity.

  • Touch up and polish painted areas to achieve a professional, showroom-level finish.

4. Quality Control & Collaboration:

  • Work closely with painters and assembly technicians to ensure deadlines and quality expectations are met.

  • Double-check masking and prep work before vehicles are sent to paint.

  • Communicate any issues or delays to supervisors promptly.

  • Follow work orders, blueprints, and job cards to ensure accuracy.

5. Safety, Organization & Maintenance:

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

  • Use PPE at all times and follow all safety protocols and procedures.

  • Perform routine maintenance on tools and equipment used in sanding, buffing, and bodywork.


Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience in automotive or industrial body prep/paint environment.

  • Understanding of sanding, masking, taping, filler application, and basic body repair.

  • Ability to operate buffer/polishers and use polishing compounds effectively.

  • Familiarity with working in or around a paint booth and production environment.

  • Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work with little supervision.
