Job Title: Utility Technician

We're looking for a Utility Technician who thrives in a fast-paced, people-focused environment. In this role, you'll support mail services, logistics, and facilities operations across several sites—including Cleveland, Higbee, and Hinckley. From processing shipments to operating freight equipment, you'll be a key player in helping everything flow safely and efficiently.
This role is perfect for someone who's organized, proactive, and ready to wear a few different hats throughout the day.
Mail & Package Handling
- Receive, sort, and deliver mail and packages from US Government Client, FedEx, UPS, DHL, and internal sources.
- Process outbound and return shipments—both domestic and international.
- Keep delivery logs up to date and help coworkers choose the best shipping methods.
- Keep track of shipping, janitorial, and office supplies—and restock when needed.
- Receive deliveries for labs, events, and merchandise.
- Make sure shared supply areas are neat, stocked, and ready to go.
- Operate postage machines, label printers, and tracking systems with confidence.
- Use third-party shipping tools (like UPS and FedEx platforms) to process packages.
- Safely handle equipment like forklifts, pallet jacks, dollies, and compactors.
- Respond quickly to freight calls and prioritize urgent deliveries.
- Inspect cargo for safety and help with loading/unloading as needed.
- Work closely with elevator technicians and help ensure secure freight movement.
- Take care of light cleaning tasks like sweeping, trash pickup, and snow removal.
- Support pressure washing, dumpster work, and assist with special events.
- Occasionally provide valet support in a private garage (training provided).
- Perform daily equipment checks and help keep the workplace hazard-free.
- Enforce building access rules and verify delivery personnel.
- Follow safety guidelines when handling hazardous materials and packages.
- Always wear proper PPE—steel-toe boots, gloves, safety glasses, etc.
- Experience with freight elevators and material handling equipment.
- A self-starter with strong organizational and time management skills.
- Someone who can make sound decisions and work well without constant supervision.
- Friendly and professional communicator with a focus on service.
- Basic computer skills and comfort using shipping platforms.
