Site Reliability Engineer III – PostgreSQL, AWS, & Data Platforms

Are you a database expert with a passion for performance, scalability, and modern cloud infrastructure? We're looking for a Site Reliability Engineer III to take ownership of PostgreSQL environments and architect robust, secure, and high-performing data solutions across a modern AWS ecosystem.

This is a high-impact role where you'll drive observability, optimize cloud-native data platforms, and collaborate cross-functionally to ensure our systems are resilient, efficient, and future-ready.

What You'll Do

Drive Observability & Monitoring

  • Design and implement comprehensive database observability strategies

  • Build dashboards for real-time insight into database health and performance

  • Establish anomaly detection and alerting systems to proactively resolve issues

  • Recommend best practices for tracing, logging, and performance tuning

Architect & Optimize PostgreSQL

  • Lead the design, deployment, and maintenance of PostgreSQL databases on AWS

  • Tune schema, indexes, and queries for scale and speed

  • Harden database security and ensure compliance with cloud best practices

Leverage AWS to the Fullest

  • Utilize AWS services like Aurora Serverless, RDS, EC2, Lambda, S3, and more

  • Build resilient, cost-efficient storage and backup architectures

  • Implement cloud-native solutions aligned with security and scalability goals

Strengthen IAM & Cloud Security

  • Manage AWS IAM roles, policies, and access controls

  • Conduct security audits and collaborate with InfoSec on risk mitigation

  • Ensure compliance with security protocols and governance standards

Expand Across Data Platforms

  • Support and optimize non-relational data systems like DynamoDB, OpenSearch, and DocumentDB

  • Build integrations and ETL processes across Redis, Kafka, SQS, and more

  • Work with Terraform and IAC tools to manage infrastructure at scale

  • Create robust monitoring and alerting pipelines via Datadog and AWS

Support, Troubleshoot & Mentor

  • Act as the go-to expert for complex database issues and root cause analysis

  • Collaborate with development teams to enhance system performance

  • Mentor junior engineers and DBAs, and contribute to internal knowledge-sharing

What We're Looking For

  • 5 years of hands-on PostgreSQL experience, including performance tuning and advanced features

  • Deep familiarity with AWS services: RDS, EC2, S3, Lambda, DynamoDB, and more

  • Solid understanding of IAM and cloud security principles

  • Proven expertise with Redis/Valkey, Kafka, OpenSearch, DocumentDB, and Amazon SQS

  • Experience with Python or Bash scripting

  • Strong foundation in data modeling, indexing, and normalization

  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and team collaboration skills

  • AWS certifications (Solutions Architect, Database Specialty, Security Specialty) are a plus

Nice to Have

  • Advanced degrees or continued education in Computer Science or related fields

  • Experience modernizing or refactoring legacy systems

  • Familiarity with regulated environments (HIPAA, PCI)

  • Exposure to AWS Glue, Neptune, and other purpose-built AWS databases

  • Agile/Scrum experience, especially with Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence, OpsGenie)

What You Bring

  • A passion for building and maintaining scalable, reliable, and secure data systems

  • A curiosity-driven mindset with a bias toward action and improvement

  • The ability to communicate complex ideas to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • A self-starter attitude with strong ownership over results and outcomes
