Position Objective:

The Welder and Metal Fabricator installs and moves machinery and equipment on and in trucks and trailers; performs all production welding and torch cutting required for fabrication and installations

Job Requirements and Primary Responsibilities:

• Fabrication experience.
• Understand how to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints.
• Study engineering drawings and blueprints to determine materials requirements and task sequences.
• Plan the sequence of steps to perform duties.
• Understand how to use measuring devices to cut and prepare raw materials to required specifications.
• Lay out and examine metal stock or workpieces to be processed to ensure that specifications are met.
• Set up and operate fabricating machines such as brakes, rolls, shears, flame cutters, grinders, and drill presses to bend, cut, form, punch, drill or otherwise form and assemble metal components.
• Position, align, fit, and weld parts to form complete units or subunits, following blueprints, engineering drawings and layout specifications using jigs, welding torches, and hand tools.
• Operate various welding, soldering, or brazing equipment to assemble equipment.
• Align and fit parts according to specifications, using jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, and hammers.
• Position or tighten braces, jacks, clamps, ropes or bolt straps, or bolt parts in position for welding or riveting.
• Move, assemble, and install equipment.
• Install generators, fabricate the vehicles to accommodate customer specifications for exhaust and fuel line hook ups.
• Perform all duties following all 5S/LEAN manufacturing requirements and according to all safety and health policies.

Required Skills:

• Able to read and interpret documents such as layouts, blueprints, sketches, engineering drawings and manufacturing instructions.
• Able to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area and circumference.
• Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry and general math skills.
• Solve problems with a deal of variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
• Must be able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Required Experience and Education:

• High School Diploma or equivalent with welding/fabrication related courses and three to five years related experience.
• Requires the ability to operate various equipment: to include welding equipment, forklift, hoists and various hand and power tools.
• Requires a broad knowledge of mechanics, metal properties, welding techniques and general metalwork procedures and practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Five (5) years to Ten (10) years of welding/fabrication experience in a job shop environment.

Physical Requirements:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and use hands to finger, handle or touch objects, tools or controls.
• The employee frequently is required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
• The employees is occasionally required to walk, sit, stand, reach above shoulders, climb or balance, talk or hear, taste or smell, and use foot/feet to operate machine.
• Must regularly lift and or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
