Job Summary

The Tear-Down Technician is responsible for safely disassembling welded automotive components for weld validation and quality analysis. This position requires the use of hand and power tools to separate welded assemblies while preserving the integrity of the weld for inspection. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical aptitude, enjoys hands-on work, and thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Disassemble welded automotive components while maintaining weld integrity for inspection and validation.
• Follow work instructions and visual guides to identify weld locations and ensure proper material separation.
• Use hand tools, air hammers, chisels, pneumatic tools, torque tools, and other shop equipment safely and effectively.
• Perform cut and etch processes, including cutting and sanding welded components for weld penetration analysis.
• Inspect parts for defects, damage, wear, and quality concerns during the tear-down process.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area in accordance with 5S standards.
• Follow all company safety policies, PPE requirements, and environmental procedures.
• Assist with material handling and movement throughout the facility.
• Work closely with engineering, quality, logistics, and production teams to support prototype and production activities.
• Complete additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

Education

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.

Experience

• Previous manufacturing, assembly, automotive, or mechanical experience preferred.
• Experience using hand tools and power tools required.
• Prototype or low-volume automotive manufacturing experience is a plus.
• Forklift and overhead crane experience preferred.

Skills

• Strong mechanical aptitude.

Physical Requirements

• Regularly lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds; occasionally up to 75 pounds.
• Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
• Frequently bend, twist, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach while performing job duties.
• Perform repetitive tasks using hand and power tools.
• Work overhead and in confined or awkward positions as needed.
• Safely handle large automotive parts and assemblies.
• Work in a manufacturing environment with varying temperatures, noise levels, and production activity.
• Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.

Work Environment

• Automotive manufacturing and prototype facility.
• Fast-paced production environment with changing priorities.
• Overtime and weekend work may be required based on customer demands and production schedules.
