Job Summary

We are seeking a hands-on Data Center Technician to support data center infrastructure deployments, equipment installations, relocations, upgrades, and decommissioning activities. The ideal candidate has experience with rack-and-stack operations, structured cabling, hardware installation, and IMAC (Install, Move, Add, Change) services.

This role is suited for a technically inclined professional who enjoys working with servers, network equipment, cabling, and physical IT infrastructure in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.

Key Responsibilities

Rack & Stack / Hardware Deployment

  • Install, mount, and secure servers, network switches, routers, storage devices, and other IT equipment in data center racks and cabinets.

  • Perform rack-and-stack activities according to rack elevation diagrams, installation instructions, and project specifications.

  • Stage, inventory, label, and prepare equipment for deployment.

  • Connect power and network cables and maintain organized cable management.

  • Verify equipment placement, connections, labeling, and installation quality.

IMAC Services – Install, Move, Add, Change

  • Perform installation, relocation, expansion, replacement, and configuration changes involving data center hardware.

  • Disconnect, deinstall, relocate, reinstall, and reconnect servers, network devices, and associated infrastructure.

  • Support hardware refreshes, data center migrations, equipment upgrades, and infrastructure expansion projects.

  • Follow approved work orders, change-control procedures, and installation plans.

  • Coordinate with project leads and IT teams to complete assigned work accurately and on schedule.

Cabling & Connectivity

  • Install, route, dress, label, and organize copper Ethernet and fiber-optic cabling.

  • Perform cable tracing, patching, and connections between servers, switches, and patch panels.

  • Follow cabling diagrams and port assignments to ensure accurate connectivity.

  • Perform basic connectivity checks and assist with troubleshooting cabling or hardware installation issues.

  • Maintain clean, organized racks and pathways while following data center cabling standards.

Testing, Documentation & Asset Management

  • Verify equipment installation and connectivity before project handoff.

  • Record hardware serial numbers, asset tags, rack locations, cable connections, and equipment movements.

  • Update work orders, inventory records, installation checklists, and project documentation.

  • Identify installation issues, damaged equipment, or discrepancies and escalate them appropriately.

  • Follow site security, safety, equipment-handling, and change-management procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in data center operations, IT hardware deployment, rack-and-stack, IMAC services, structured cabling, or a related technical field.

  • Hands-on experience installing, removing, moving, or replacing IT hardware.

  • Familiarity with servers, network switches, racks, cabinets, patch panels, and power connections.

  • Basic understanding of copper and fiber cabling and network connectivity.

  • Ability to follow technical instructions, equipment layouts, cabling diagrams, and established procedures.

  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and troubleshooting ability.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a project-driven environment.

  • Reliable attendance, effective communication, and a commitment to completing work safely and accurately.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience supporting enterprise data centers or large-scale IT infrastructure deployments.

  • Familiarity with fiber-optic connectors, copper patching, cable testing, and structured cabling standards.

  • Experience with hardware decommissioning, equipment migrations, and technology refresh projects.

  • Familiarity with ticketing systems, asset management databases, ServiceNow, or data center infrastructure management tools.

  • Relevant certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or vendor-specific hardware certifications.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to work onsite in a data center or technical infrastructure environment.

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and work within equipment racks for extended periods.

  • Ability to lift and move IT equipment and materials in accordance with site safety requirements.

  • Willingness to follow applicable safety, security, and electrostatic discharge (ESD) procedures.

  • Flexibility to support scheduled maintenance windows or occasional overtime, as required.

What Makes a Strong Candidate?

The strongest candidates are hands-on technicians who have physically installed and removed equipment, performed rack-and-stack work, managed copper or fiber connections, and completed hardware moves or changes. Candidates with structured cabling, telecommunications installation, field services, or enterprise hardware deployment experience may also be a good fit.
