Position Overview
We are seeking a Systems Engineer to support an Independent Research and Development (IRAD) team developing integrated rotary-wing flight simulation and training capabilities for CH-53K and MH-60R/CG use cases. This role focuses on CH-53K ownship software, Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), and SysML modeling to translate operational and training needs into clear, implementable engineering solutions.
The engineer will collaborate with software developers, integration and test engineers, pilots, instructors, and subject-matter experts to define system requirements, architecture, interfaces, behaviors, and verification plans for next-generation helicopter simulation systems.
Key Responsibilities
-
Develop, decompose, trace, and verify system requirements across simulation software, hardware, training workflows, and supporting infrastructure.
-
Create, maintain, and interpret SysML models covering requirements, use cases, system structure, behavior, interfaces, and traceability.
-
Apply MBSE principles to support system architecture development, interface definition, and verification planning.
-
Analyze aircraft-system behavior, malfunctions, pilot maneuvers, normal and emergency procedures, and mission scenarios.
-
Collaborate with software teams using working knowledge of C++ to understand implementation constraints and system interactions.
-
Support system integration, testing, verification, validation, troubleshooting, and technical baseline management.
-
Communicate technical requirements, assumptions, interfaces, dependencies, and risks to multidisciplinary teams.
-
Support simulation capabilities involving recording, replay, after-action review, instructor workflows, and simulator hardware/software interfaces.
-
Apply AI-assisted research, analysis, and engineering tools responsibly, independently validating results.
Required Qualifications
-
Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent qualifying experience.
-
At least 3 years of working experience, with relevant systems engineering experience preferred.
-
Experience applying MBSE principles and developing or interpreting SysML models.
-
Experience with requirements decomposition, system architecture, interface definition, requirements traceability, and verification planning.
-
Working knowledge of C++ sufficient to collaborate with software development teams.
-
Background supporting systems integration, testing, verification/validation, troubleshooting, or technical baseline management.
-
Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience with Cameo Systems Modeler or Cameo Enterprise Architect.
-
Background in aerospace, aviation, rotorcraft, avionics, flight dynamics, mission systems, or flight simulation.
-
Experience with aircraft-system behavior, malfunction modeling, simulation architecture, digital engineering, or real-time training systems.
-
Familiarity with Python, Bash, automated testing, and AI-assisted engineering tools.
-
Knowledge of Distributed Interactive Simulation (Client), High-Level Architecture (HLA), TCP/UDP networking, or hardware I/O.
-
Experience with cockpit displays, audio, motion systems, control loading, data logging, recording/replay, and after-action review.
-
Familiarity with aircraft survivability equipment, threat modeling, Qualification Test Guides, FAA/EASA standards, or simulator qualification.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate combines hands-on SysML/MBSE experience with systems engineering fundamentals and sufficient software knowledge to work effectively across architecture, requirements, interfaces, and verification. Experience supporting military aircraft simulation or pilot training is a strong advantage, particularly involving CH-53K or MH-60R/CG platforms.
