Seeking a highly hands-on Laboratory/Test Technician to support R&D prototype development and laboratory test systems. This person will independently perform electrical and mechanical assembly, vacuum and gas-system setup, equipment troubleshooting, and general laboratory maintenance.

The ideal candidate has practical experience working with vacuum systems, cryogenic equipment, electrical wiring, test equipment, and mechanical assemblies and is comfortable working alongside engineers, scientists, and senior technicians in an R&D environment.

Top Must-Have Skills

Candidates should ideally have at least 3 of the following 5 skill areas:

  1. Vacuum & Gas Systems
    • Configure laboratory vacuum/gas-handling systems.
    • Hands-on experience with CF, KF, NPT, and VCR fittings.
    • Experience with vacuum pumps and vacuum gauges.

    • Build and troubleshoot test cables and wiring assemblies.
  3. Test & Measurement Equipment
    • Experience using:
      • Multimeters
      • Signal generators
      • Oscilloscopes
      • Lakeshore temperature measurement equipment
      • Vacuum pumps
      • Vacuum gauges
  4. Equipment Troubleshooting & Maintenance

    • Diagnose electrical, mechanical, and equipment-related issues.
  5. Chilled Water & Liquefied Gas Systems
    • Hands-on experience working with chilled water systems.
    • Comfortable working with liquefied gas/cryogenic systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently perform electrical and mechanical assembly of prototype systems and processes.
  • Configure and maintain laboratory vacuum and gas-handling systems.
  • Wire assemblies and create test cables.
  • Operate and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, vacuum, cryogenic, and electromagnetic equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on laboratory equipment.
  • Assist engineers, scientists, and senior technicians with R&D projects, milestones, and deliverables.
  • Support documentation of existing equipment, systems, and processes.
  • Assist with developing and maintaining SOPs and work instructions.
  • Perform general laboratory maintenance, organization, and 5S activities.
  • Maintain a strong focus on laboratory and equipment safety, particularly when working with cryogenic and electromagnetic systems.
  • Use sound judgment to troubleshoot problems and make timely decisions with limited supervision.
  • Help improve laboratory processes, efficiency, and equipment reliability.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • R&D laboratory experience.
  • Experience writing or developing SOP documentation.
  • LabVIEW experience.
  • Python experience.
  • Experience troubleshooting DR systems.
  • Experience with cryogenic or electromagnetic equipment.
  • Strong mechanical/electrical troubleshooting background.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with engineers and scientists.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The strongest candidate will be a hands-on technician rather than someone with purely theoretical or engineering experience. Look for someone who has physically built, wired, configured, operated, and troubleshot laboratory or prototype equipment.

Good backgrounds may include:

  • R&D Technician
  • Laboratory Technician
